erinmac - 2013-01-05 9:27 AM hi i'm doing this race for the first time. can anyone give me a report on the course. what should my training focus on? hills? flats? thanks

You're going to love this race!! As far as training goes, ride lots! The bike course has a few hills but overall is a great, scenic course. I don't know where you are from but as long as you can find some hills to ride you'll be fine.

The run course has some good hills on it and you can almost count on it being hot and humid out there so hydration is key. The volunteers are awesome and aid stations have water, heed, enduralytes, and a variety of other treats. The residents are all over the course with hoses, showers, extra water stations and are an excellent boost out there. Definitely train some hills for the run.

The swim is flat!

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me or check some of my race reports for more info.

This will be my 2nd year doing the race, I loved it last year! We had a bad storm during the race last year so I didn't get to enjoy the scenic bike route. I'm hoping for better weather this year!

Bike course is relatively flat with some rollers and 1 "significant" climb. Nothing to be afraid of though.

The run course on the other hand is tough... there are 2 crazy hills---1 around mile 3 where you either run up the steep grass or climb a flight of stairs and the other around mile 7 where its a very steep gravel road. But remember--what goes up must come down And all the crowd and volunteer support makes up for it....lots of aid stations and plenty of people out with hoses to help cool you down.

It's such a fun event and very well run, I can't wait to do it again!

I'm in again.  This will be my 4th time at this race.  As far as I'm concerned, Musselman is one of the best events in the entire country.

Pretty sure I will be signing up! YAY! I'm just waiting to see if they still have housing left in the dorms before I sign up. I emailed yesterday and haven't heard back. Super stoked to be able to do this event. Had my ankle reconstruted in NOvember and finally gaining some ground and feeling good.

I know someone who signed up 2 days ago and got into the dorms. I hope they still have space for you! Such a fun event and I'm glad you're feeling good from surgery and excited to race

just be mindful, not all the dorms are air conditioned.  if you get a non-a/c room, I'd suggest bring a fan.  The rooms can get quite hot...

Hey folks.  It's been quiet around here...I hope everybody's training is going well.

Quick question - since it seems that transition area is being paved over, do we need to re-think our transition set-ups?  I don't think so, right?

My understanding is that the transition area won't be paved over until after the race this year.

Just thought I would check-in and see how everybody is doing. How's your training going?

I think my training is on-track. I feel like I'm ahead of where I was last year at this time, so looking forward to a great race.

See y'all in a few weeks.

I know I am ahead of last year as I missed the season due to a shoulder surgery.  I have already completed one HIM last month and am now focused on Musselman!!

Now we just need things to dry out and warm up a little!!

Trainings going well around here! Lots more bike volume this year than last year so that is good since the bike is my weakness. Now lets just hope its not thunderstorming during the bike this year again!

Hey fellow mussel people! I am training hard. I recently heard the lake is cold but no one has mentioned that. Any of you veterans feel that way?? I'm so excited. Doing a decent bike run brick tomorrow. Hoping it feels ok. I did Rev 3 in Ct earlier this month and bonked on the run. Hoping for a better showing. Happy training.
