Subject: Colchester Half Marathon
Anyone here running or have run the Colchester Half Marathon, (February 23).   The route looks a bit hilly to say the least.  I may try it should the temps be above 20F - day of registration is only $15.00 - I hear the post race food is pretty good.

it is a good race; i did it a number of years back..yep, VERY hilly-especially the last two miles which seemed to go on forever and you see all the runners spread out ahead of you...

good practice for IMLP-do it, highly recommended

I've done it the last 3 years.  It has been getting much more popular, so if you wait until day of to register, get there 2 hours in advance. 

I won't be running it this year.  Suffered a concussion a week and a half ago and can't do any running for a while.

I did the race last year - good race, nice crowd and good food after (indoors, where it is warm).  Last 2 miles are tough!

I've run several times.  Most of the course is rolling; short steep hill at mile 6 and longer steep hill at mile 8.  There are a couple of downhill miles ~ 10-11, then easy uphill to the finish (but it feels hard).

Good low key vibe, although it has gotten more popular recently.  It's worth preregistering to avoid the line on race day, or get there early.  Good food after, but go for the food before massage so you don't miss out.

Going to be an interesting run - the forecast may have more snow in it this weekend - is the course suited for high snowbanks on the shoulders?  (I rather not dodge cars or hurt an ankle or knee with my first IMLP this year)

The run is completely in the road.  There isn't really much shoulder anyways, so the snow bank shouldn't matter.  There will be enough people that the cars are good about slowing down.  However, a portion of the run is on dirt roads.  3 years ago, it snowed the night before and the run was single file down 2 tire tracks because it wasn't plowed.

Yeah that part that goes through the dirt road is not going to be fun..I wonder if it was plowed or if they would reroute it. Good luck with it!!

I ran it last year as part of my build up to IMLP. not an easy course, but great scenery, nice relaxed atmosphere and a huge sense of accomplishment! this year, not training for a full IM, so am doing Polar Bear run at Lake Waramaug the following day instead...

Just signed up for it.  The pending snow wont come in until much later on Saturday.  Should make for great cool and overcast conditions.  Thats at least what I want to happen!

Nice job Cobra. I fell apart in mile 11 but finished at 1:46. Those hills felt like hell. I got 750 ft of elevation today. For reference, Quassy was 781 ft for me last year. I thought they felt very comparable.
