In Canada we have a chain called Earls. The dress code for the waitresses seems to be VERY low cut blouse or dress, and VERY short miniskirts. And they bend over a lot. Since I am no longer 16, this doesn't amuse me,

Dude, I am 52 years old and that stuff amuses me.

I am trying to raise my daughter with the knowledge that she doesn't have to flash the customer in order to make money.

What if she wants to?

Read what I write. I said that she wont HAVE to. Deciding on her own is her choice. My job is to make sure that she has the tools, the ability and the judgement to make the right choices.

I did read what you wrote; the implication is that someone having to dress a certain way is outside their control. It's always about choice.

And I am making sure that she has plenty of choices.

Oh, here in Dallas, TX we have... REDNECK HEAVEN. http://redneckheaven.com/The girls wear next to nothing. Look at the photos: http://redneckheaven.com/photos.htmlThey are wearing bra and panties. I personally haven't been there, but I saw a FB picture posted from a gal who worked there. I was appalled. It was shocking. I mean, it's a restaurant. Not a bar. Not a strip club.

There's a bar/grill in St. Louis that has body paint Fridays.  The girls wear nothing but bikini bottoms and paint.  I've never actually been, but not because I'm not opposed to it.  The line is literally out the door throughout the entire lunch shift.  It's like Chris Rock says, "nobody goes to Hooters for wings".

Here's how I see it... if a man wants to see half naked women... then just man up and go to the strip club. I have heard The Lodge here in Dallas has wonderful food and strippers. I use to promote for a club and the owner went just about every night for dinner.

I know these "restaurants" are a married man's way of seeing half naked women without having to tell his wife he want to the strip club... but come on. It's just... sad. Own to what you are doing, or don't go at all.

I also think it is rather sad to see 18 year old girls wearing bra and panties to work... when it is NOT a strip club... and not a club/bar she is working at. REALLY?!

I have no problem with places like that, but I won't tip extra just for flashing the goods. I'm not stupid enough to think a waitress there wants to be mroe than my waitress because she smiles at me and flashes her hoo-ha.

I'm sure glad we don't have anything like that here in Vegas...

I've never been to a place like that in Vegas. Well, recently, anyway. Wayyy back in the day I went to a club called `The Beach.' where all the wait staff was wearing bikinis. Usually it's the customers who are trying to be naked, not the servers or bartenders.

Come on... it is Las Vegas... that's not the real world. I'm surprised anyone who waits tables in Las Vegas has clothes on.

When I waited tables in college, At Applebee's (I worked there for 3 years, but also waited tables at Chili's and Outback Steakhouse before Applebee's), and when I worked Sunday mornings none of the waiters/waitresses wanted to work the non-smoking section. Working the non-smoking section on Sunday mornings was the worst. Typically the church crowd. They were VERY PICKY, uptight, and no one gave a good tip. Sure, maybe a $1 or $2 on a table where 4 people ate... but not a 15%-20% tip. That was just my personal experience when I waited tables. I know not EVERYONE who eats after church are the same. I know a few of them weren't picky, weren't uptight, and tipped well. BUT the MAJORITY of the people were picky, uptight, and didn't tip. That's all I'm saying. AND again... I know not EVERYONE who goes to church fits the description I gave. The smoking section was the best Sunday mornings. It would get crowded around noon, they would order beers, be super chill, and leave a huge tip. Again, just my personal experience.

I had the EXACT same experiences!

I know *all* of us here tip 20% or more Foot in mouth but man, when/why did (the majority of) church-goers (I served) get this way? Why don't they tip? I'm really curious. Is it the frugal/Dave Ramsay/don't spend a dime-mentality or what?

For the record I grew up in one of the most religious households you could imagine and my father was/is an extremely generous tipper - so when I started waiting tables I was shocked that others from my same background did not do the same...

I wonder if any other servers would like to chime in on what their experience was.

The lunch crowd any day of the week at a steakhouse I worked at. Sundays were bad. But the lunch groups of four elderly women on a Tuesday or Wednesday were the worst! They'd all get a soup and sandwich and it'd be like $5.99 incluidng an iced tea. The bill would be like $25 and I'd get maybe a dollar or two. Once I got a quarter!!!

Exactly. There's a time and place for it if you choose to. But don't blur the lines of what your "restaurant" is or isn't. Choice is a fantastic right or the individual and community. By the "restaurant" masquerading as something it isn't, they know they can shove approvals through zoning unencumbered. Call it a gentlemen's club and zoning approval becomes 100X more difficult.

I was quite surprised by your link to the Redneck place. That's fine; IF you choose to be what you actually are: A bikini / lingerie gentlmen's club. Don't pretend it's wholesome family fun where you can go for pie and coffee.

OK, I'll give you that. Lunch crowds with a table full of ladies are pretty bad too! I always make sure when I go to lunch with my coworkers that I over tip. I have no clue what they are tipping, but I suspect it isn't much, so I put in extra on mine!

Where I waitressed we were closed Sundays.  YAY family values or something like that.  BUT as a part of sunday after church groups, most of the people I went out with are completely embarassing - a million special orders and substitutions, always in a huge party with the check split a billion ways, usually complain to the manager about something, and terribly stingy tippers.

also, as someone who has helped to manage church finances, the money is NOT in the collection plate either...

RIGHT???!!!!!

I guess they are saying that "redneck" women walk around in garter belts, bras, and panties all the time. ????

I'm pretty sure all the "redneck" women I knew weren't wearing outfits like what Redneck Heaven has posted on their website.

I hear what you are saying about the zoning laws. Interesting!

Funny enough, I had a very similar experience when I was a server in college, working at a family-style restaurant.

We used to have a group come in every Sunday night that we called "The Church People" because they were all dressed up and obviously coming from or going to church or bible study. Nobody wanted to wait on them because they each seemed to have their own peculiar spin on the menu choices, sat as a single group of 25 people requesting separate checks (which was a PITA in those times at that restaurant), were cheap tippers and as part of their "tips" would often leave behind some cr*p religious pamphlets.

I remember thinking, "Hey, thanks, Monsignor. That will really help pay my electric bill."

I also remember that guy's finicky order to this day for his weekly desert: "Chocolate milkshake made with vanilla frozen custard, not chocolate. Just enough chocolate syrup to give it color. Light whipped cream on top, no cherry. Spoon on the side, no straw."

I always wanted to accidentally dump it on that guy's head.

The Lodge is full nude..... just sayin' (and I know that because....ummm...there is a guy who knows my buddy that said his cousin went there once......yeah....that's it)

I waited at a Country Club.  I always got the feeling that they didn't consider us waiters and waitresses, but more so the help.  I waited by the pool, in the dining room, in the grill, and in the men's lounge.  I made zero tips from the pool, dining room, and grill.  ZERO.  For just about every employee, the Club had to adjust the pay because we all fell so short of minimum wage.  However, when the men were playing poker or gin and boozing it up after 18 holes, I'd often get about 20 bucks from each person to "keep 'em filled up" and whoever had a good day at the table usually left a little some extra, too.  I was 16 years old, making 200-250 bucks every Sunday night, and had a key to the Club beer closet.  Those were good times.  I would even drive back from college early some Sunday mornings to work the beer shack in the morning and the lounge late afternoons just to get the bank account back right.

Granted, that's not exactly the same as in a restaurant, but it made me become (humble brag) a generous tipper.  I tip for all the ****heads that think they are proving some point by leaving crappy tips.  Get some guts and say something to the waiter or waitress while the meal is taking place instead of passive aggressively screwing them over when you're safely on the way home.

Ah, you mean that he waiter is unaware that he is being rude or ignoring the table or just being a dick? No, sorry, I'm going to assume for some odd reason that the waiter is more the two years old and treat him like an adult. In other words, show that actions have consequences. Both when a great job is done, earning an extra large tip, or when a extra lousy job is done, earning zero.

My whole town revolves on that kind of amusement.

That surprises you?  We have thousands of restaurants in Vegas.  Believe it or not, I would say only 1-2% have skimpy/sexy themed atire.

As far fetched as it may sound, the people that wait tables at OUR Olive Garden or Chili's don't take their clothes off to serve you.

You gotta keep quiet about that... don't want to hurt the tourist traffic!

Well, after suffering through this thread, I'll at least have a plan if some waitress approaches our table wearing underwear.

This does not look sanitary.
