Pre-race routine:

Ughhhhh I was running late. I thought I had gotten an early start but was unsure of exactly where the race was. Better luck next time!

I will say, I had an excellent stout the night before (beer is a pre-race tradition.) Whenever St. Paddy's day rolls around I always wonder why I don't drink Stout more often. So that is what I am doing :)
Event warmup:

I got there JUST in time. I hustled to the start line, tightened my snowshoes and then it was "On your mark, get set, GO!" and we were off.

Comments:

This was my first snowshoe race. In fact, it was only the second time I have ever been on snowshoes in my life. Luckily I read a few "quick tips" before the race and I am glad I did!

Running in snowshoes is one of the hardest things I have ever done, especially on the uphills. I was pretty much at max aerobic capacity.

Once we started up the hill the three of us separated from the rest of the pack and never saw anyone else again. The people that finished behind me were almost a full 5 minutes behind.

The two in front of my had more running specific snowshoes and it was pretty clear how much more efficient they were. Mine were a little clunky and a little wider so I had to run with my feet apart a little more.

Anyway, I guess the race was fairly uneventful. I couldn't *quite* keep up with the other two yet no one was around me to race. The 3K went by pretty quickly and it was a lot of fun. I gotta say though, I was really glad to be finished.

My throat hurt like a mofo from breathing so hard in the cold. I had the sexy raspy voice for the rest of the day.

I ended up first in my AG, 2nd woman overall and 3rd Mens and Women.

What would you do differently?:

Run faster? :)
Post race
Warm down:

Ran to my car, ate some food, BSed with some people by the fire, met up with my friends and did 3K walk with them.

After the awards ceremony I went snowboarding for a couple hours. (see my last photo below) It was beautiful!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

non running-specific snowshoes.

Event comments:

I won a whole bunch of coconut water, a message and a pink Nalgene water bottle :)

Overall: 2/600
Performance: Good
I am just guessing with the numbers in the event. Most of the people were walking and not racing and I never got an official count of how many were. It was also way more about raising money for breast cancer and less about the 'race'
Course: The course started on a long hill then leveled out a bit then was pretty rolling before it hit the 1.5 K then a steep left had 180 degree turn up hill, more rolling and then down hill to the finish.

Nice job.  Having the right snowshoes does seem to make a world of difference, but yet still just as hard.

That is soooo awesome! Of course the amazing Salty can still pull out a 2nd without having the proper equipment! Congrats on the winnings too.

The differnece in attire between your avvie and the race pics is kinda funny.

You look stunning in the photographs!

There was a race? Wait, I saw "massage" ...

Hot damn cool runnings there. 1-2-3 placing. Incredible. Wearing fins, basically, and non-specific ones at that!

First thing I saw was...

Total Time = 16m 8s
Overall Rank = 2/600
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/85

...and I just smiled.  That's our Salty!  That race looks like so much fun, and the pictures are great!  I love the action shot where both feet/snowshoes are both off the ground, although the one where you are posing by the flag is cool, too.  Congrats on the swag, too!

Well, don't get to impressed by those numbers. The vast majority of them were NOT racing. I just had a hard time separating the two.
