Run
Comments: This was my first snowshoe race. In fact, it was only the second time I have ever been on snowshoes in my life. Luckily I read a few "quick tips" before the race and I am glad I did! Running in snowshoes is one of the hardest things I have ever done, especially on the uphills. I was pretty much at max aerobic capacity. Once we started up the hill the three of us separated from the rest of the pack and never saw anyone else again. The people that finished behind me were almost a full 5 minutes behind. The two in front of my had more running specific snowshoes and it was pretty clear how much more efficient they were. Mine were a little clunky and a little wider so I had to run with my feet apart a little more. Anyway, I guess the race was fairly uneventful. I couldn't *quite* keep up with the other two yet no one was around me to race. The 3K went by pretty quickly and it was a lot of fun. I gotta say though, I was really glad to be finished. My throat hurt like a mofo from breathing so hard in the cold. I had the sexy raspy voice for the rest of the day. I ended up first in my AG, 2nd woman overall and 3rd Mens and Women. What would you do differently?: Run faster? :) Post race
Warm down: Ran to my car, ate some food, BSed with some people by the fire, met up with my friends and did 3K walk with them. After the awards ceremony I went snowboarding for a couple hours. (see my last photo below) It was beautiful! What limited your ability to perform faster: non running-specific snowshoes. Event comments: I won a whole bunch of coconut water, a message and a pink Nalgene water bottle :) Last updated: 2012-12-19 12:00 AM

Ughhhhh I was running late. I thought I had gotten an early start but was unsure of exactly where the race was. Better luck next time!
I will say, I had an excellent stout the night before (beer is a pre-race tradition.) Whenever St. Paddy's day rolls around I always wonder why I don't drink Stout more often. So that is what I am doing :)
I got there JUST in time. I hustled to the start line, tightened my snowshoes and then it was "On your mark, get set, GO!" and we were off.
