Would you go? I would. If I didn't have a little guy, I'd be trying to find out how to volunteer for this and trying to convince the misses.

Hmmmm. Just to slingshot past? Not sure if the time in the tank would be worth it. But setting foot on it and making the first steps toward colonization? Yes please.

I'd go if Chris was going... And if I could have lots of books and a PS4 with lots of games... And the computer did not talk to me...

You do realize that I won't be able to resist making the computer talk like HAL, right?

If that's the case, I'm afraid I can't join you, Chris...

Now I have that song in my head... No no, not the good one, this one:Daisy Daisy Tell me you love me true...I'm plum crazy all for the love of you...

It's a long trip.... I also probably wouldn't be able to resist trying to make it sound like it's been inhaling helium :D

Nope nope nope nope nope.  It's like going to a tropical island.  Sounds like a great idea until you're stuck on a dinky island in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.

16 months on an island is a piece of cake.  In space it'll be a bit (a LOT) tougher, but perhaps not as much as you might think.  Don't underestimate how quickly time can fly by when you get into a routine.  There will have to be plenty of things to occupy the mind.  I'm sure that there'll be regular contact with Earth, and regular daily maintenance type (busy) work to do.  A treadmill and a bike trainer would be great

If you did for some reason get to land on Mars you could run a marathon way faster than on Earth. Gravity is less on Mars.

I wouldn't fly a few hours to the Caribbean if all I got to do was look out the window.  1.5years for just a flyby?  Send me an E-postcard.

On the other hand..think of how fast you could bike without the peskily thick atmosphere that we have here!  Assuming you could pedal without air...

I would do it because it's a once in a billion opportunity. The negative side effects of being in space for 3 years would be pretty bad (probably devastating actually), but I think it would be worth it.

It would be pretty damn freaky as you kept getting farther and farther away from earth, until it was just a little star out the window.  On the other hand, as you approached Mars... imagine how cool that would be.

As much as I love my wife, I don't think being locked into something the size of a motorhome for 15 months would be a good thing. I'm sure she would say the thing.
