Pre-race routine:

Got up, headed down to Jimmy's with Bruce, he parked, we headed over to Marta to go back up to the start.
Event warmup:

Walk to Marta / from Marta to start. It was already incredibly hot outside.

Comments:

Run was ok for me. It was slotted as training for me so this was not a 'race' so to speak. Still got a respectable time in those crowds and the hot conditions this year. I got to see my girls on the course and that was nice. I stopped and chatted with them a bit. Keegan was telling me about her mole on her shoulder. It was an interesting exercise in patience as I wanted to see and talk to her, but I also wanted to get back out there and run. Still, it was great to see them.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate more. I had some problems the rest of the day because of that oversight. At one point post race, I put 80 onces of water into me and that still wasn't enough to generate more than a little outflow.
Post race
Warm down:

Headed over to the Get Fit tent for some beer and socializing. Always a good time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Was not racing. Was training.

Event comments:

The Peachtree Road race is always a highlight on the calander. However, this year will be my last until the 2008 race. I am going to take 2007 off. I'll still register 'just in case', but I feel that it would be best if I spent my 4th differently next year. It's one of my faviorite holidays of the year, so it's time to treat it like that.

Sounds like you had a fun race yesterday! It was definately hot out there, be careful with hydration issues - that can really hurt you for a few days.

I was only a little dissapointed not to be running this year (I wanted to sleep in for a change on the 4th), especially since I actually liked the shirt for once!

You are so right: the Peachtree is not really a race but an event ... still nice to log a good time, but even nicer to finish with 55,499 of your closest friends.

Nice exercise in patience in being able to stop long enough to listen to your daughter's important news! (I've got an 8 yr old who started talking at 24 months and hasn't stopped since ... )

I'm pretty sure she was talking about the boo-boo by the mole on her shoulder; not the actual mole!

Regardless, I know the girls were glad to see Daddy and have him stop and give hugs (even if he was way too sweaty!) because once you left they both lost complete interest in the runners and spent the rest of their Peachtree experience running away from me!

It's not every day that you get to train with that many people... Great job!
