Is there anyone out there who works in the electrical utilities? Im not looking for job leads but just some insight into what, if anything, I am doing wrong. I am a big "C" career changer going from sales to graduating with my electrical engineering technician - power diploma. I have applied to 60 jobs and have had 1 interview. My resume is strongly focused on my education and recent electrical/utilities work but its not getting the interviews.

I wish I got these kinds of questions! Ugg... Public education is so d**n rigid. Every interview is designed to get you to utter a few key words, then move on. I quote Jim Croce: They wouldn't listen to the fact that I was a genius: they said 'Man, we got all that we can use.'

Anyway, I've been to 5 interviews in the last month.  And I've never been asked any of these off the wall questions, ever.  Listing I've seen don't have end dates either.

Most of my interviews dive straight into technical stuff.

I hate the "strengths and weaknesseses" questions because I always get canned answers. I usually ask " what do you think you're really good at?" and " what do you wish you were better at? and the verbiage is,just different enough that I,get someone other than "working with people" and "I'm a perfectionist." I leave it deliberately vague and I ki d of like it when people give me answers that don't relate directly to the job.

My last interview (for the job that I have now) I was asked something to the effect of "what was the most challenging thing you've ever encountered?"

My answer was completing an olympic distance triathlon

for any recruiters that are in this thread....are any of you IT specific? I had my resume done by a service and I wanted to go to a skill set resume and try and get away from the alphabet soup related to IT, but I'm wondering if the lack of alphabet soup isn't making it hit more online...feel free to PM me so we don't clog the thread or if it's beneficial to others, post away!
