Sunny
Total Time = 1h 04m
Overall Rank = 93/
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 7/13
Pre-race routine:

Drove 45 minutes to race site. Went to bathroom. Picked up race packet and got ready in transition area.
Event warmup:

A couple of minutes of jogging with a few pick ups to warm up. Gentle stretching. Short swim.
Swim
  • 08m 23s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim for me - 3rd in age group!! Started to left of group to avoid mess at first buoy. Had to swim wide by about 30 yards due to congestion.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Pretty good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Get running start and jump on bike.
Bike
  • 27m 25s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.88 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. Usually it takes me a while to settle into a good pace but I was up to about 23 mph almost immediately. Felt strong the whole way, even on the bridge. Speed never dropped below 21 except for turns and going up the bridge. It was usually well above that.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

I need to run without socks. Although I get them on quick it probably slows me down somewhat.
What would you do differently?:

No socks for sprint races.
Run
  • 24m 53s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my weak point in all races. I felt great off the bike and took it out slow. The bridge was tough but didn't bother me. The run through the local area was fine and I picked up some speed for the last 1/2 mile. I was passed by a buddy in the last 400 miles but this is the closest I've been to him at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

More run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, grab some food and water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more run training.

Course: Out and back starting north on A1A. On return trip course went over the Blue Heron Bridge which is fairly steep but short. This is a major hill in S.Florida! The turn around was at the bottom of the bridge so there was no big reward for climbing the bridge. It would have been nice to build up some speed. Back on bridge to transition.

Nice race!  Congrats on 3rd in the swim.  That's a big bridge up there - I don't think I could run over it, forget try to bike over it.

The hard part about the bridge is the turn around is just at the bottom. You can't get much speed coming down and then you have to do it again. Both for the bike and run.
