Subject: Long Term / Short Term Goals

Hey All,

Just curious if anyone else here has thought out long term / short term goals...these could be times to hit, races to attend, etc. I've spent a lot of time recently thinking of races I'd love to compete in, qualify for, etc...


Short Term:

-Race B2B in October sub 5:00 hrs

-Stay healthy enough to train throughout the year

Long Term:

-IMLP 2015 (Volunteering this year)

-Qualify for Boston

-Race IM Salzberg once

-Most importantly, never overtrain/get sick of this sport

I would suspect most here have some long and short goals, they will all just look a bit different is all. Personally, mine look something like this:

 

short term:

-start hitting some podiums

-BQ (checked off)

- go 4:30 at Steelhead this year

Longer term:

-70.3 world's

-KQ

The only concrete, make or break goal I have right now...short or long term...is to crack an hour over a 40k TT. 

I tend to set some "soft" goals for triathlons and other races but so much of it is weather dependant and how accurately they measure the course that I stopped bothering.

I also gave up on long term goals because frankly I don't really know what I want to do long term.

To the. OP, why imlp 2015 and not 2014 if you are volunteering this year? No one will put a gun to.your head but you are a shoe-in if you sign up on the Monday following.....

My long term goal is in progress and hopefully finishing imlp this year......short term : sub 6 hr HIm next weekend

Great catch!

I meant IMLP 2014. Even though I grew up close to there, I've never checked out the course/etc...I can't wait to get up there  day early and bike the course before volunteering (this is allowed, correct?)

Great job with BQn...Would you say that you tended to "slack" on biking/swimming with more run training? I want to start trying for BQ after IMLP, but don't want to have my bike/swim take a big hit

If you don't mind me asking, how close are you to the sub 5 mile?

On a side note, Ryan Hall was at our office the other day, and went on a 3 mile "Fun Run" with us during lunch...we were going around 9:45/mile, and I couldnt' help but think "Damn, this guy ran a marathon going about twice as fast as we're going now"...it's insane

I consider goals < 1year as short term, and > 1 year as long term.

I'm a "planner" and pretty much map out my training and race schedule a year forward every January.  I also do the same thing with my business, which helps to fit everything together over the course of a year.

Most, of my triathlon/sports goals are listed on my training page blog here on BT.
