Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know I've added on some unnecessary poundage over the Winter and cold Spring, so maybe it's better I can't see it averaged out...but, with the new site design, is anyone else out there missing the average weight page? I weigh myself daily and have for the past 6 or 7 years...it was a nice motivating feature. Is it really gone? Just curious. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey CD, just curious, since I am on the polar opposite end and only weigh myself once a year at my physical, why do you weigh every day? Yes, I see that you mention motivation, is there a reason beyond that? Edited by Left Brain 2013-05-27 9:10 AM |

Yes, I see that you mention motivation, is there a reason beyond that? I'll admit that I can be pretty meticulous when it comes to some things. It was always frustrating for me to look at weights inconsistently. I never liked that "plus or minus 3 or 4 pound" thing. By weighing myself daily at the same exact time, it smooths out variability. Weekly and monthly averages become more accurate. btw, I hit body fat % at the same time too. I heard on NPR there are other folks out there that make me look normal. ![]() btw, those "trackers" not only record and measure intake, some measure (what's a nice way to say it) "output?" I'm not that guy! ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wasn't trying to imply that you weren't "normal".....I've read enough of your posts to know you are, and figured I could ask you the question. It's interesting to me, because I don't care at all what I weigh beyond "I like to stay fit". I can usually tell if I'm a bit over or under where I like to be, but I don't have to have a number. The other thing, and I bet you could too, is that at my yearly physical I can guess my weight within 3 lbs. every time. |

I don't think he's normal at all. haha I try to weigh myself every day as well because it's a great tool for keeping my weight under control. I have a long family and personal history of over eating and when I don't weight myself frequently I eat and eat and eat and convince myself that I'm only gaining a pound or two so it's no big deal. Then I check the scale after a month and I've put on 10 lbs. oops. So, when I weigh myself every day and average the weight out due to obvious fluctuations I know immediately when I'm putting on weight and it helps me keep it in check. To your question CD, I'm not sure about the average weight tool on BT because I track my weight in a spreadsheet that I made myself. I have about 3 years worth of data and it works like clockwork. If there's a gap in me checking my weight the next entry will be at least 5 lbs. more, but when I have consistent data my weight always goes in a downward trend. |

Hee-hee...we're all abnormal to some extent. LB, no sweat man. I didn't think you implied that at all, all good man. So Tony, yet another thing we have in common...see that? Left and right CAN live in harmony. ![]() btw, I'm the same way with eating...I love it! too much. That said, I'm by no means overweight. As for the feature of seeing weight averages change, I just figured it would be a good draw for what I would consider to be a good demographic "beginner triathletes," to come to BT and stay at BT. Then again, if it's a service offered for paying customers, I can understand that business strategy as well. |

If I dont' weigh myself nearly every day, I get very lazy about my eating habits, and gain 10 lbs before I know it. BTW, aint none of you all that's normal. I, on the other hand, am perfectly well adjusted. (sarc font)

![]() For those of you that gain 10 lbs when you don't weigh in on the scale, I'm just trying to understand so I hope this is not insensitive, but don't your clothes feel uncomfortable? I really hate it when my pants are too tight so that is enough to make me change my eating habits. I'm the opposite, I rarely weigh myself. I had a brief brush with anorexia in high school where I weighed multiple times a day and starved myself for that number on the scale that I thought would make me happy. I was down to 99 lbs before I finally came to my senses. Now I've learned to be happy with myself and that number does not really mean too much to me. If my clothes are comfortable and I feel good then I don't have much use for weighing in. But, my weight has stayed consistent for the last 20 years so I can't really imagine gaining 10 lbs. I feel gross if I gain 3 pounds. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like it but being so tall myself my weight can change up to 3 lbs in a day. It keeps me from freaking out and helps me understand the trends better. If I do not do it I find myself gaining 10 to 12 lbs pretty easy. For me I do not feel that unconformable when I am up 10 lbs since my clothes tends to be baggy to start with and when your 6'6" you can hide 10 lbs. pretty easy. I feel gross if I gain 3 pounds. For me personally, the 10 pounds doesn't come on in a month. When my wheels come off and I eat real irresponsibly, I'm still exercising enough to keep it in check. Before BT made the big overhaul of the site, I'd be able to know what my best and worst months were with 2 or 3 clicks of a mouse...I'm still very bummed I can't do that. I think my biggest one month weight gain was 5 or 6 pounds...and my biggest loss was about 4 or 5 pounds. I was my lightest the night of my 140.6, I think it was 6 pounds lighter than the night before the event. (175.5 to 169.5) btw, like chirunner, I'm fairly tall so weight can hide without changing clothes fitting too much. trigal, you noted you can feel a 3 lb. difference...for me, that's a normal fluctuation. If I have pasta or Chinese, or anything high sodium for lunch and/or dinner, I'll be 3 pounds heavier that night. That's a small fluctuation. But over time, seeing the averages, it is clear as day. |

I feel gross if I gain 3 pounds. I am 5'9" so I can gain 10 pounds and see little difference in my clothes. However I have short girlfriends who gain 5 pounds and it really changes the way their clothes fit. I would never notice less than 10 pounds if I only went by how my clothes fit. I had a brush of my own and then married an a$$hat who treated me based on what the scale said. He had a number he wanted me to be which is pretty crazy. I only weighed myself when I went to the gym after that madness. That way if I didn't like the number I took it out on my workout. However, as I became less of a gym rat and more of a triathlete I realized I was never near a scale since I wasn't going to the gym anymore. I bought a scale, maybe 6 months ago. I have 3 daughters and they do not know I have a scale, it is kept on a shelf in my closet. The last thing I want is them weighing themselves. I pull it out a couple of times a week and honestly say off it certain times of the month but having it has kept me more on track and I've managed to not let it affect my mood. |

![]() Ok, the height issue makes sense to me. I'm almost 5'6" and when my weight starts to creep up it goes to my stomach so I just wind up feeling really uncomfortable.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another tall girl here and my weight can fluctuate 3-4 pounds in a day. Whenever I weight myself in the AM it's 127-128. In the evening 130-132. Never fails. I weigh myself about once a month just for poops and giggles. The scale rarely reflects how I'm feeling. I feel bloated to death, I'm down two pounds. I feel like I've lost muscle and look too small, I'm up a few pounds. When I did marathon training which usually makes people skinnier, I was just as lean, maybe a little leaner but my quads got huge and I gained like 5 pounds. Who knows. |

![]() Hmph, never even knew there was an average weight function.... I also weigh myself daily, mostly the product of dropping about 50 pounds in the last year and a half or so, helps me monitor small gains so they don't become big gains. Helps me maintain a good weight, and helps me nip it in the bud when things are going the wrong direction. |
