Total Time = 49m 28s
Overall Rank = 76/138
Age Group = 39-44
Age Group Rank = 15/25
Pre-race routine:

First tri so pretty clueless as to what to do. People were very helpful though and friendly. Lots of newbies like me.

Event warmup:

No warm up... mostly just trying to get where I needed to be ... and chatted with some folks about what to do/expect.
Swim
  • 06m 21s
  • 220 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice distance between waves. Lots of support from guards as we passed them "good going' etc..
What would you do differently?:

I definately need more swim practice. I was not strong enough to really pull myself through with ease.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Had a bit of a struggle pulling bike shorts over a wet body. I was not freaking out like I had figured - probably too much huffin' and puffin' going on after the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Would have done it faster..gotten the lead out.
Bike
  • 33m 59s
  • 8.8 miles
  • 15.54 mile/hr
Comments:

A bit freaky trying to criss/cross over runners at the end. And no one could see my numbers (had put on thigh and upper arm but clothing now covered--- should have put # on calves because never get covered). Great crowd support!
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder. Was a bit apprehensive because wanted to save my legs for the run. Also, a couple times difficult to pass because folks would ride 2 deep or side by side - so to pass meant going into traffic a couple of times.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Didn't move very fast in transition area. Too leisurely. But enjoyed sitting down and taking a nice long drink before shoe changes.
What would you do differently?:

Again, cut the lolly-gagging.
Run
  • 09m 9s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 05m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I pushed the 'take a break gods' out of my mind and forged on. My head was hot! By the end, I felt I could have gone on so that is great!
What would you do differently?:

Pushed it harder.
Post race
Warm down:

drank water... no sooner than it went in, sweat it right out again. My heart rate max was 173 @ 98%, ave was 161 %91% -- maybe I've got to work more efficiently.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, inexperience and lack of training.

Event comments:

For a beginner--excellent segue into the sport! Highly recommend.

Overall: 83/138
Performance: Below average
Suit: Last minute deal with b-suit/sports bra.
Course: Wave starts, around a man-made lake. The day was hot and humid - so the lake felt great! Started out strong but then got a bit panick-y when I had to round corners of the lake (could not see). Being used to pool swimming, I reverted to breast stroke. The rest of the way..back and forth between freestyle and breast. Lifeguards offered noodles for those who wanted one (without disqualification) but didn't take one.

Thanks MarkK -
Yeah, not sure what happened with the running time. I did the auto calculate ... should be like a 10 min mile. Oh well, don't know how to fix/edit it do you? Otherwise a 5 min mile is good for the ego!

Hey! Gal from Darboy - I'm sorry I forgot your name but we chatted just before the swim and your kids came up to wish you well. How'd you do?!?!?!? Are you going to do the Oshkosh Tri in August ?

Great job...as a newby and a late bloomer myself you have given me reassurance that I too can do this. My race is Aug 12th...still a few weeks to go. Do you have any others planned? Are you hooked on tri's?

Congrats on your first. That is always an exciting feeling and at least to me, whether it is the 1st or last, that finish line is so exhilirating to cross. Glad you stuck it out. I was #162 at the tri and found it to be a nice one. I am from the Madison area and felt the drive was worthwhile. I wish the run could have been longer, but understood with the heat. I wish you luck for your future tri's and keep up the workouts. They are the most fun of it all.

You probably passed me ! Lots of folks did.
Yes, great first tri. I see you are getting pretty seasoned yourself. Good luck to you and I think we're due for a break in the heat soon!
