Subject: New tire, front or rear?

Was looking my bike over before the weekend race and found a nice slice & budge on the rear tire sidewall.  Bought a new tire but wondering if it should go on the front or rear? I've never just replaced one tire before.

Rear was squared and tread wear markers were almost gone.  The front is much less squared with about half of the tread wear marks left.

TIA...

I always replace both tires at the same time.... call it superstition... call it stupid... I just do it

I tend to replace the rear twice before replacing the front so I'd say go ahead and replace the rear tire.

Others prefer front tire being new because a blow out on the front tire has a higher likelihood of being an issue if you're going downhill fast.

6 of one...

9 out of 10 times it's the rear that I flat. Not sure why that is. You'd think if you ran over a piece of glass or nail it would hit the front first. Anyway, I always put the new tire on the back because it takes the most wear. Front tires seems to just last forever.

I'll just replace the one that went bad, which has been the rear a bit more often. I do tend to keep the front one in better shape as it's harder to maintain control if a flat happens there. Might have moved the front to the rear once or twice because of the amount of wear at the time, but generally just replace.

When I replace just one, it will always be the front... blow a rear tire, no big deal. Blow a front tire, the chances a hospital visit is in your future is pretty high.
