Not sure if anyone else is doing Gravenhurst, but watch out for some of the road conditions on Muskoka Beach Rd. The first part is recently paved and in great shape, but once you get past Taboo and into the scenic section of the course, the road conditions change. There are numerous potholes, or raised sections of road that you need to dodge around and avoid. It becomes that much harder because there is so much shade due to tree cover - I found myself out of aero in a few sections simply because I felt my hands needed to be close to the brakes. It really is a bit sketchy.

Not sure if John's crew is able to get out there with some orange spray paint before race day - but if they do, they'll need more than one can...

Oh, and make sure you don't overcook the legs on the bike. That run course has some tough sections.

Neil, We are on top of this, or as on top as we can be. We are aware of the poor condition of the road and have been following up with the municipality on a regular basis. That section is due for micro surfacing and they have assured us it will be done before the race. Now, assurances are fine but we are being proactive and following up with them again this week to be sure the schedule has not changed. We will continue to monitor and follow-up until it is done.

That's the latest news I can give you today.

Thanks John - I know that you guys are obviously at the mercy of whomever is responsible for the roads. Fingers crossed the municipality does what they are supposed to.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
