Subject: Heart Rate Issues on the run! I am having a problem trying to keep my HR rate low on my runs. I am currently on track to doing an HIM in November, so my runs haven't gotten very long yet. But I'm concerned as my runs get longer, my high HR won't allow me to complete a 13.1 milts run without frequently stopping to walk.
A bit of background: I am 35 years old and for a long time my Max HR was 173, until today I hit 182 on a short 3 mile mostly flat run at an average 11 minute mile pace. I am already going pretty slow, but if I walk my HR drops dramatically. My average HR rate today was 155bpm, which places me at my ZONE 4, a bit high for a short slow run. I can't seem to find a happy medium.
I have only been running for about 2.5 years and I am just coming off a tendonitis ankle injury. I have been slowly rebuilding my mileage again (right now 4 miles max ), but my HR feels out of control.
Am I worrying for nothing? Am I being impatient? Is there any suggestions anyone has to control my HR to keep it down in the Zone 1-2 range without having to stop and walk every few minutes? |
