Pre-race routine:

Hanging out with my family. Waited in a car park while the race was delayed due to a massive storm.
Event warmup:

Few easy meters to loosen up. Dynamic Stretches.

Warm down:

Stretched. Went and ate a burger.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was mid-training for a half ironman and hadn't done any specific training for a 5k event. I only entered at the last minute so that my family could hang out and watch me race. Was 1 minute behind the winner.

Focus on doing the drills and improving each week. Eventually you will go out for a run, look down, and see that your pace has improved, your heart rate is lower, and your cadence is over 90 rpm.
