Pre-race routine:

Worked the expo all day friday and Saturday. Tore down on Saturday night, drove the stuff back to the shop, unloaded and was home by 815pm! sweet! After a long weekend of working, it was nice to get to bed early.
At the last minute Mom said she'd come with me in the morning so me, her and puppy Boston left home at 6:15 am and drove to the dome. Exited on Washington and took a right on 5th street and pulled over and parked - SO SLICK! I just waited in the car until about 10 minutes before the start, walked to my corral (2) stood at the back and was ready to go! Mom then took off and drove to the finish. It was super easy and was so happy to have her help in the morning so I didn't have to park in St Paul and bus it to the start.
Event warmup:

None. I should have waited in line for the port o john. I ended up having to poo the whole run ;(

Comments:

I started in the very back of corral 2. This was my plan as i havent run very much at all in the last month. I also was totally ok with keeping a slow pace at the beginning. So i was slowish at the beginning. I warmed up and took off my jacket and tied it around my waste after about a mile. it was super great weather for running! the first two miles are fast (downhill), but it was super crowded so i took it easy and didn't go crazy trying to get around anyone. an easy first two miles was a good plan for this race. Then kept a pretty steady pace until mile 5ish. At a water stop, I pulled over and walked for about 20 seconds while i ate a gu (not trying to break any records here so walking was fine with me) then ran on. With 3 miles to go i picked it up. i was at 1:04 something with 3 miles to go and wanted to try to go under 1:30. so that was 26 min to run 3 miles - totally doable. I was at 1:21:30 with 1 mile to go and ended up running a 7:50 last mile to finish at 1:29:17. I was pretty happy that I was still able to give a good effort at the end. EASPCIALLY with the amount of (NOT) training i've been doing. Never having done a 10 miler, I'm happy with the time I guess, and glad about the good mental effort and a well executed race in that I was able to speed up at the end, and didn't have to slow down because i was cashed.

Fun race, I hope to do it again in the future.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked through the very crowded finisher shoot and then to the car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training

Great job!  It would be fun to coordinate meeting up before an event sometime, you have to let us Minnesotans know when you'll be around

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

Soon after I got married, I decided I needed to get motivated to work out and focus on getting back into shape. I could barely jog a quarter-mile without needing a walk break.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
