I'm looking for a fairly flat half iron distance race for 2014 (but not September) for my sister and her hubby's first HIM race. Doesn't have to be IM branded. I've done Raleigh HIM and the Williamsburg, VA Patriots Half. With the redone race course that might work, but I thought I'd see if anyone had other suggestions.

To clarify - the redone run course for the Raleigh race might put it in contention. Patriots would be great, but they can't make that date.

Galveston is as flat as they come. Early April, so the water is a bit on the cool side (mid-60's).

Also doing Miami next week. Flat on the bike, but the run has a bridge that I've heard is like a major hill.

Soma HIM in Tempe, AZ. Raced it last Sunday and it's flat as a board. It's a Lifetime Tri event and is well run, IMO.

I wouldn't rule out a course just because it has a few hills. Certainly rule out something like Savageman, but hills aren't the only thing that makes a course hard. Heat, wind, water conditions, and if it's wetsuit legal probably play just as big a factor. For beginner swimmers, the wetsuit legal part may be the biggest factor.

There is a Rev3 HIM in Williamsburg in June now.  Same swim as patriot, but the bike and run stay more in the city - still very flat.

Muncie. The bike is flat. The run is not bad either. The temperature was on the warm side though.

Beach to Battleship. Besides a few bridges, it's as flat as you can get.

I was gonna suggest that. Very flat, and great food for the finishers.
