Pre-race routine:

Last race of the season, and this year we got lots of snow and cold. Wore zoot ultra shorts, thermal tights, under armor shirt, long sleeve tech and the race shirt over top. Gloves/race cap/scarf.

Event warmup:

Run, pee, run, pee - pre-race coffee and cold runs make it a process.

Comments:

Fun race with a decent 1st place prize so we get some of the local elites out.

Huge breakfast with bacon/eggs/pancakes at the Garage restaurant afterwards.

What would you do differently?:

Can't do much about the weather.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Snow, ice, extra clothing, heavy snow trail shoes.

Age Group: 12/50
Overall: 22/331
Performance: Average
Course: Loop west along the path, then east towards the zoo then north and back. Snow was ok for the first 5km - was just over 20 mins and on track for sub 1:30 but then the snow was over an inch deep which is like running in sand. Even the elites (sub 30/10k) were barely under 4min/km and did 1:20s. Got passed by quite a few at the 14km mark which is unusual. Ran with a pack of dudes for a few km until they all started fading, and repassed them all including the crazy girl that was way underdressed.

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
