Total Time = 2h 04m 13s
Overall Rank = 641/1130
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 49/114
Pre-race routine:

Able to chill in the hotel room after packet pickup and try to relax. Seriously buzzing off the caffeine!
Event warmup:

Nice long walk to the start line, otherwise, no warm-up. What else is new.
Run
  • 2h 04m 13s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Quads killing after mile 10, really left it out there.
What would you do differently?:

Trained more, but given this was a winter race and I had no specific goal other than to do it, I'm glad I did it, and I PR'd!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, wish I didn't have to stop to talk to friends (they were injured and couldn't walk) because I was getting extremely stiff.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed work training.

Event comments:

Awesome winter race, would definitely do it again!

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ā€˜09, with a HIM in Oct of ā€˜09

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
