Yep me too! First olympic and first time doing Chicago. Went and watched just after I moved downtown last year. Should be a blast, and all the feedback about the course changes I've heard will make the experience more enjoyable.

I am doing this after not having done a tri since 2011.

I hope that the new course helps keep things from getting congested. I have had a busy life schedule making training difficult, but i hope to have a good race.

i was on the fence for months about doing this race... not because i don't think the race is good, or i can't do it, because i hate the city... when i finally mentally committed, the olympic race was sold out. Im registering as soon as it opens for next year.

I was really tempted to do the triple challenge, maybe next year. I've avoided this race in the past because I didn't like the logistics of getting there absurdly early and then not starting until 3 hours later. When they made the changes to allow overnight bike check and a more flexible transition area, I decided it was time to pull the trigger and cross it off the list.

There is a big issue with the triple this year though. Previously the sprint was first and the Olympic was second allowing the longer race to be second.

This year its the other way round so...

In the water just after 6am - let’s say for arguments sake 3.5 hours of racing then back in the water just after 10am for the sprint - that leaves 30 minutes to recover, walk all the way back to transition, and get back to the start line again for the sprint swim.

Im most certainly a middle of the pack person for any race and im looking at 3 hours for the olympic which would give me an hour to essentially reset for the sprint.

Going to be a bit more demanding this time round.

I'm going to be an on-course bike marshal. Gonna crack skulls if I see anybody cheating.

Just kidding, I'll be a rolling sag wagon. If you break down, I will help you. For a dollar.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I was not an official; I simply observed the race and the officials doing their thing. Here is what I saw:
