Swim
Comments: Started out decent with freestyle and actually thought I might have a decent swim. However, didnt stick with it due to breathing and did more sidestroke than I would have liked to. I also tried the backstroke thing and that it pretty useless. Cannot stay on course for the life of me with that. It is fine for a rest but cannot use it to actually get anywhere but off course. What would you do differently?: Need more OWS practice. Pool is nice for mechanics but just doesnt compare to the real deal. Transition 1
Comments: Felt good running out of the water and peeling off the wetsuit. Cap and gogles off quick, zippers on ankles helped suit slid off quick. First time with no socks too and went very smoothly. What would you do differently?: Pretty happy with this overall, just do it quicker? Shaved about a minute off T1 from Lake Mills. Bike
Comments: Few issues with the chain on some climbs. Seems to be a small ring issue. What would you do differently?: Get faster!! Maybe run a wheel cover if it tests out good. Transition 2
Comments: They changed it where you dismounted at the top of a grassy hill and then ran about 30 yards to transition. No complaints on how it went though could have stepped it up a touch as I was fumbling with race belt on the way out. Saw the Mrs and the kids coming out of T2 and that is an awesome feeling seeing them go nuts. Run
Comments: Achilles held up well and felt quick off the bike, however, trail running aint my thing and I was a bit cautious on those parts. In the flats I was able to gradually work up my pace with the turnaround being my point to pour it on. Was very cognizant about hunting down guys in my wave and burning by them, but now that I think about it, might not have even been in my AG. Poor bastards. Last half mile was just sub 6 up until the hill. No passers on this leg either. I dont think it was my most solid run, but taking into account the course and the recent leg issues, I will take it. What would you do differently?: Turn on the burners quicker maybe? Post race
Warm down: Drank some water, had a little pasta from the post race grub. Good stuff. Played with the kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had a bachelor party bbq last night and didnt eat the best plus had 2 beers. Dont think the beer was an issue but the food may have caused some GI issues I might not have had otherwise. Event comments: Good race, cool venue, challenging course relative to some of the pancakes out there. Will be back again. I didnt hit my goal to lop off 15 minutes, but got about 12 of em and have some easy stuff to improve on. I was shocked to have gotten hardware with that donkey paced swim, but work on the run and bike can cover up some of that it seems. Still lots of work to go... Last updated: 2006-08-13 12:00 AM

Did equipment check the night before and new disc cover seemed to be rubbing a bit plus I was reluctant to use it on hills until I test it further. The rubbing made it a no brainer to take it off. Ate a light breakfast, had some Gatorade and two granola bars over the two hour wait from getting there and setting up to race time.
Little bit of jogging. I had my running sandals which probably werent the best to do this in, but nothing major.
