Swim
Comments: Ended up drafting someone for the first 300m, but they ended up taking me way off course - remember to sight while drafting next time! The last 250 was smooth and effortless, I felt I could have gone another 750 and done the Olympic distance. What would you do differently?: I can't seem to figure out how to get relaxed for the first 1/2 of my swims. I wish I was a LOT faster too, but have not figured the speed part of the equation out yet. Transition 1
Comments: The swim exit was a super-slippery boat ramp. At least I didn't have to deal with sand on my feet. Spent a bit more time than I should have getting my wetsuit off and my helmet on. Not sure where I lost the time, but it seemed to go really slow. What would you do differently?: Get my earplugs and nose plug out -before- I get to my bike. No sense wasting time doing it standing still. Bike
Comments: There was a lot of construction around the 3.5km mark. It was 4 laps, so you get to deal with it 4 times. Pavement was chewed up, several 1.5" high lips in the pavement to bunny hop at speed. Spent a lot of time passing people :-) What would you do differently?: Staying in aero position while drinking could have shaved a few seconds off my over all time. Could have put in a bit more effort on the last lap. Got stuck behing a slow racer on a mountain bike in the "no passing" zone which cost me a good 15 seconds. Transition 2
Comments: Moving dismount on the bike, ran to my rack, threw my shoes and hat on, but it just seemed like I stalled for some reason. Was I really standing there staring at my shoes that long? Seemed like it took forever. I calculated T2 based on my overall time and watch lap data (race includes T1 and T2 in the bike leg) but it just seems like I was in there forever. Run
Comments: Had a good turnover of 85-90 the entire run - started at 90, slowed down to 85 around 3.5km it seemed like. Never realized just how much I like to have my GPS on me so I can know exactly how fast/far I'm running! Had about 5-6 people pass me on the run, no way I was keeping up with them so I just set my own pace. If I had pushed it, I could have shaved -maybe- 30 seconds off my time, but I was running close to my max pace here. I've got a long way to go on my running speed - I thought 24 minutes was pretty good until I saw that the top 15 were all under 20 minutes. Post race
Warm down: Crossed finish line, went right into water/food line. Don't people know not to get between a clyde and the food table? Didn't do much of a cool-down other than walking and some light stretching. Last updated: 2006-08-13 12:00 AM

Got up late at 5:30. Bagel w/ peanut butter and jam for breakfast. Sprint starts at 10AM, so keep the rest of breakfast for later.
Should have warmed up more - just got into the water to do a quick swim and they called us back to the beach for the count and start.
