2.4 mile swim with 112 mile bike exactly two Sundays before a full IM ...

Is this too much?

I am thinking not so much ... but your ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

What does your plan say?

In my past experiences, this type of training would be perfect for 3 weeks out from the race. For me, 2 weeks out is still a good volume of training but more like a 3-hour ride. Swimming is the easiest to recover from, for me, so I would be more worried about the toll the bike would have. Still plenty of time to recover though, so if you think you can take it fairly easy, it's not a terrible idea.

I'd consider doing it. I like to taper longest on run and shortest on swim. 2 weeks out still pretty normal bike training.

Plan says a couple different things but it includes 70 mi bike with 4000m swim which is just over 2.4 so I think I prob will do!

Thanks.

Sweet coffee cup.

Have a good day!

Are you looking at Cedar Point prior to Chattanooga? I'm doing the 1/2 AB, but considered doing the full.  I would say go for it.  It will give you an excellent chance to make sure your nutrition is spot on.

I really wouldn't, IM is too big a thing to come in not fully healed up. But I'm an old man so shrug.

Hmmm, interested in hearing what veterans would say. My gut says no way! My legs, personally, get the most worn out from the bike, though. I could probably run a marathon and recover more quickly for the Ironman than do the race you've mentioned.

Many athletes will do their last race rehearsal ride 2 weeks out.  Putting the swim in front of it is probably even more effective since you will get the best test of your nutrition plan you can get prior to race day.  There is no way you could run a marathon and recover faster unless your swim and bike fitness are near non-existant (which would be troubling 2 weeks out from an IM).

I finished in 14 hours.

1:14 swim

6:38 bike (climbed) big hills, coasted on downhills as part of plan ... spin the hills in easiest gears.

5:30 run or so

Transitions were longer than they would have been if I actually had experience in IM format. I mean, in T2 I was mixing drinks for my race belt with bottles for pete-sakes. Stupid . Gave away my race belt 3 miles into run to some spectator !!!. Could not carry it, it was so annoying. My bad. T1 was like 10 min which I think was OK considering you run up the helix ... but my T2 was 14 min. I did slip on some duct tape they used to tape transition carpets together and jacked my left knee up good ... so that was comfortable. That took a minute.

Other than those transitions, I really did give it all I had. Could have had a better plan for the run.

But I am happy I got my first done, and overall happy for my frame/fitness level.

It was a lot of fun.

And you know what? I think I may do another, so I can improve on the things I did not like that I did!

I guess thats what happens to us?

I am an IRONMAN!

Congrats, Ironman!

Did you do the aquabike?  Did it help you prepare?

I did not!

I don't think it would have made a whole heck of a lot of difference.

And, I saved some $$$.

Haha!  I tend to be frugal/cheap, so I can appreciate that.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.

This training plan is written to prepare you for your first Ironman. While just a beginner’s plan, the hours per week start at a significant 8 hours.
