Master 2406 Bellevue, WA | Subject: Ironman Boulder 2015 I just signed up. It will be my 11th Ironman (presuming I finish IMAZ 11/16/14). My youngest daughter is a second-year student at CU Boulder, and her current apartment is two blocks from the finish line at Boulder High School. I've done a bunch of running along Boulder Creek while visiting her. I hope to be able to do some training rides next spring in the area and visit her. Any advice from people who know the course? is 2015 planned to be the same as 2014?

Most will be the same. I believe they want to bring the Carter Lake??? climb back if the roads are fixed in time from the 2013 floods. Same with the run course. |

Veteran 258 South dakota | Subject: RE: Ironman Boulder 2015 It could be hotter than the blazes of glory, it could be windy as well... That said it is wicked fun course. As perviously mentioned carter lake may be added back in, eliminating the very norther little loop. Also. The NE section of the flux capacitor will be different ( removing the evil overpass, that thing sucked). If they revert to the originl plan |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Boulder 2015 Plan on hot windy and dry. Also think about getting there 10 days before the race to adjust to the altitude. 5500 feet base elevation is something you will feel if you are flatlander. The course itself is not overly challenging outside of the heat and wind. You will be completely exposed to the wind for the bike. It could be 100F +/- most of the day. I will see you there for the fun. |

Extreme Veteran 694 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Boulder 2015 It was a well run race and a beautiful venue. I really enjoyed the new swim format and had a relatively calm swim. There was a seaweed patch at about 3/4 of the way in that was unnerving. There has also been concerns about E. coli levels in the reservoir as it had been hot leading up to the race and then we had heavy rains for a few days leading up to the race. There were an inordinate number of athletes with lower GI issues; not typical for IM. The bike course wasn't challenging as far as net ascent but it was wide open with no respite from the sun. I loved the first half of the course; the latter was a little boring. As said, they may add Carter Lake back in which adds a short but steep climb and a wicked descent. If it's windy, parts of the course will be difficult. The run along Boulder Creek was a welcome relief from the sun. The temperature was easily 10 degrees cooler per the shade and creek. There is a lot of traffic on the course but it wasn't really an issue. The crowds were great and the "flux capacitor" made it easy to break up the run into manageable bits. Hopefully they take out the overpass as the trail should be repaired now. Expect temps at +/- 90 degrees. Wind would make the bike more difficult but it's not like it's windy all the time here. There is also the possibility of rains and even monsoon type rains, which we got leading up to race day. I think this could be a great race if the timing was earlier or later in the year. Unfortunately, a 27% DNF rate has bloodied its nose. Good luck! |
