Title of an email I got today. Trying to get a grassroots movement trying to get her to run for President. She keeps saying no. In fact its over and over again no.

Makes me wonder if there has ever been any other politician with such a large public outcry to run that refused to run.

Sarah Palin?  hehe, sorry couldn't resist.

There are definitely a few I see now and again trying to get shoved into big stage races, but in my experience the campaigns don't usually work out very well because the individuals aren't really in it to win it when they have to be convinced to run.

It's still early, but if I were to put a bumper sticker on my car today it would be for Rand.

I have family and friends who would love to have her run and win. No joke.

Heck I would not mind if she ran I just would not want her to win. I will admit I would LOVE to met her.

I think right now my republican pick would be for Rand Paul.

I thought this political spectrum graph is pretty cool.

Looks like Elizabeth Warren is the Democrat's Rand Paul.

According to that chart it looks more like she's the left's Scott Walker.

I guess everyone's heard the quote from Cruz over the weekend, where he ridicules any suggestion of trying to bring the party out from the far-right fringe where he currently sits. He said, "“There are some who believe that a path to Republican victory is to run to the mushy middle, is to blur distinctions. I think recent history has shown us, that’s not a path to success. It doesn’t work. It’s a failed electoral strategy."

I agree with him that it's a failed strategy as far as securing the GOP nomination, but I think it's the only way they'll win the national election. How far to the "mushy middle" they need to go is up for debate, I suppose, but I don't see anyone with a score higher than 8 on that graph winning the presidency from either side. I'd be really surprised if centrist Democrats, having already given the house and senate over to the GOP, would be willing to let them have the White House as well, unless the candidate at least made a show of reaching across the aisle.

Why would anyone? The older I get the more I question why anyone would ever want to be POTUS.

People used ask the same question about being the manager of the New York Yankees, and the answer was always, "Because you get to be the manager of the most storied sports franchise in the United States, and maybe in the whole world."

It's the same thing. As POTUS, you get to be the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth and the leader of the Free World. That's a pretty attractive job for someone with the ego..um, I mean "qualificiations" to handle it. Also, have you ever seen the interior of Air Force One? Sweeeeeeet....

I suppose my question is more around what it takes to be the type of person with those qualifications; why are they that type of person? It seems like you'd have to sell your soul to get that far.

Should be an "interesting" 2016 election, if you enjoy politics. R race seems to be wide open; D race, IMHO, is more open then many seem to believe. I am not a Hillary hater, but I think it will be more difficult for her to get the nomination than many seem to think. I know this is going to sound very sexist, and I am in no way saying it is right because we would be less likely to say it about a male candidate, but I think her age will be a factor.

I agree. I think that the further to the right, and the more "traditional" the GOP candidate, the more likely it is that Hilary will get the nomination, because I think she crushes Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and the like, since those guys have no appeal to the middle-left voters. If the GOP puts a more centrist candidate out there, Hilary's insider status and divisiveness becomes more of a liability and the Democrats will themselves need to find a candidate who appeals more to the middle-right.
