Pre-race routine:

Nothing really--had sport legs an hour prior and a gu 15 min prior.
  • 1h 43m 51s
  • 9.6 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile

This was a very different beast from the last trail race--this was on gravel and had no peanut butter mud, giant mountains, or other rocks or roots. Felt really good on the run, we walked the hills and did some faster running on flats and downs when we could.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Put on dry clothes, ate the soup at the finish line, stretched out a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Early in the season.....gotta keep dropping the pounds.

Event comments:

Very grass roots run. There was a 9.6, a 19 and a 50k at the same time and still not very many people overall. Everyone was friendly and I really enjoyed it. I always like the finish line soup--everyone brings some to contribute--it's neat!

Performance: Good
Course: Rolling hills, ccw around lake. Gravel, wide trails, no mud. Couldn't really see the lake from the trail, which was sort of weird. Very very foggy.

Want to add a nice crunch, along with vitamins and minerals, to your sports diet? This article goes over the uses of flax, chia, sunflower, hemp and sesame seeds along with several grains.

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

While nuts are indeed a calorie-dense food, the good news is nut-eaters are not fatter than people who avoid nuts.

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.
