82![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: Am i ready for my 70.3?another am i ready thread i guess Im a Fairly new runner (since 2012 ) and i picked up tri last year. I have only done one sprint and one olympic. Olympic one was just over 3 hours for me. Im beginning to freak out about my 70.3 wich is in Denmark, Kronborg. Since november i have trained about 7-10 hrs per week and most of it not really pushing it to be honest. About 3km in the pool / 60-120km km on bike and about 30-40km running. 1 brick per week (40km+10km). My goal is to finish under 6:30 but is this realistic for me? Best half marathon is 1:50 , swim about 40min and bike 3:30 for him distance. Please advice |

Subject: RE: Am i ready for my 70.3?Certainly ready fitness wise IMO. as to finishing times, it's your first 70.3 so I'd just go out, execute your race plan, and let the time be what it is. A 70.3 is more than just doubling Oly bike and run times, it's a different animal altogether. Good luck! Edited by ChrisM 2015-05-03 3:57 PM |

Not sure how long until your race, but if you have some training time left, I would suggest you really focus on the swim & bike. Your run is good enough to reach your time goal, so your goal should be to get yourself to T2 as quickly as possible without taxing yourself too hard (I know those 2 items sound contradictory, but that's the art of pacing). If you have a few weeks, it's not too late to do some 'pushing it' in those sports and just do enough running to maintain your fitness there. Practice and plan your nutrition for the race, too. |

IMO, that's actually quite a lot, enough for a couple training blocks. BTW, don't take my advice above to mean ignore time goals. We all have those, but just to be careful basing your time goals on your standalone times in each leg. |

82![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Am i ready for my 70.3?I have been sick the last couple of weeks and i have dropped my time goal completely. I just want to finish in under 8hrs now. Trying to focus as much as i have time on the bike. hopefully i dont loose too much training during sick time. |

82![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Am i ready for my 70.3?I completed my first Ironman 70.3 two days ago and i must say, it was both much easier AND much harder than i thought. Easier because i could do it with a smile on my lips and didnt have any problems walking after. Harder because it took a lot of thinking about what to do and when, i had to constantly focus. The water was really cold (58F/14.7C) and kind of caught me by surprise. The start was chaotic but eventually i could do my own swim. Swim time about 40min. The bike was really flat and kept av steady 18mph , againg without leaving my comfort zone all that much. Bike time 3:13. The run was great fun and where i got most cheers from my family. I drank at every aid station and again didnt leave my comfort zone for long. Run time 1:54. Finish time was 5:59 Full IM is next |

82![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Am i ready for my 70.3?I would say that you ,in some ways, are in better shape than i was. I run a 21k every sunday, however and that might be an advantage. My next 70.3 i will absolutely push it a bit harder. Its really hard to do when its your first try. Best of luck, it will be an awesome journey! Please let us know how it went (BIB # ? ) Edited by ulf.lundh 2015-09-03 4:58 AM |
