Pre-race routine:

Up at 6 to get Willie around. Left he house about 6:50 because I had to drop Rick off at his apartment. Got to race site at 7:35. met Rebacca and Mark and kids and strolled to the start line. Rebecca had to change the little one who got car sick. Maybe not the only one to get sick. Started back at the 10 minute race pace.
Event warmup:

Chi warm up which consist of moving your joints around. About it.
  • 32m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 36s  min/mile

Started in a very crowded area and picked our way around a bunch of people but thing opened up and people were friendly about moving. Down hill a little and Rebecca was running well. Hit the first uphill she did well. Told me to go ahead but it was about a fun. She wanted to break 34 minutes. We were on pace. Made take advantage of the downhill and gave her spots where we could walk but not for to long. Saw the tiger going through zoo part. Came around to the finish line where Reb gave a little kick and took me by two seconds. Then she said she was ready to throw up. She calmed herself and didn't.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.

Running through the zoo would be fun!  Sounds like you had good company to run with too.

After about 45-60 minutes of generally light jogging I am getting shooting pain in the left side of the knee under the patella.

It's funny, there are so many people who hate even the thought of running, or even of jogging slowly! I can't imagine my life without it.

Once I can run again I'm thinking about keeping it in the training plan as a substitute for a few of my short runs. Has anyone else done this for their marathon training?
