Oakville | Subject: Chicago ITU Grand Final - as a specator My wife and I will be in Chicago this weekend and so we bought tickets to the Men's and Women's pro races. I've never watched an ITU event live and was wondering the best way to take in the race. Do they have video monitors in the grandstand or do most people move about the course for the swim and the bike and only head to the grandstand for the run and finish? I subscribed to ITU Live this year and would listen to the live coverage on my phone, but don't have enough data on my roaming plan for the entire race. |

For that particular course.......go to the T just West of the fountain....I can't remember the street names. The bike is a crazy technical course.....like almost 100 90's and 180"s technical for the duration. At that T the race will pass you 4 times per lap and you will be able to see a long way down the course in 3 directions. Same for the run. ETA - oops...I remembered it wrong....go to Columbus and Jackson. The bike will pass you there 30 or 40 times in the 9 laps. For the run move down to the intersection by the fountain......you'll see them 10 times plus be close to the finish. I hope you saw that the women's race was moved to 1p today, bc of anticipated bad weather later. Also, if it's anything like last year, there will be a giant video monitor that faces the grandstand, so you can watch most of the race live. However, ticketing for the grandstand is new this year, so I don't know abt the flow of traffic. Last year I just watched the swim, then moved to the grandstand. |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: Chicago ITU Grand Final - as a specator The Jr. Elite race was turned into a duathlon yesterday evening. The bike course was wet......with lots of painted traffic lines on the roadway, and 90 degree turns that turned the course into a skating rink. Over 20 crashes in 20K worth of racing. |

Expert 2355 Madison, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Chicago ITU Grand Final - as a specator Heard they just banned discs for the AG'ers. Sounds like it's going really well in down in Chicago.... I can't imagine the U23 athlete were thrilled about the duathlon at all. |

Wait......maybe THAT explains the really low times in the men's U23?? Edited by Left Brain 2015-09-18 1:31 PM |

I looked again.....that race WAS short.....no way otherwise. Edited by Left Brain 2015-09-18 2:09 PM |

Guess I will only make the Men's Final. |

However, i think racers in further behind packs were made to race the official distance. |
