As a gun owner, I'm conflicted. Sanders says he's more for delegating that to the states, but he also hasn't had the anti-gun establishment to appease and the far-left is where a lot of his base will come from.

Sanders' position on gun control is pretty balanced for a progressive democrat. He's actually come under fire from some liberal groups for what they see as his being too strongly anti-gun-control.

He voted agains the Brady Bill (a decision that, to be fair, he said he regretted after the Sandy Hook Massacre, though he conceded that even the most strenuous gun control legislation wouldn't prevent all mass killings.)

He voted against prohibiting guns in checked bags on Amtrak trains

He voted to prohibit any foreign & UN aid that restricts US gun ownership

But, he also voted against high-capacity magazines and against decreasing the waiting period from 3 days to 1.

He gets an "F" from the NRA, which is a little confusing, considering that at least some of his record shows support for pro-gun issues.

Here's a quote from him that I found. Seems pretty reasonable to me, although I know that last line is a non-starter with a lot of people.
“I come from the state which has virtually no gun control. And yet, I voted to ban certain types of assault weapons, I voted to close the gun show loophole,” Sanders said. “Nobody should have a gun who has a criminal background, who’s involved in domestic abuse situations, people should not have guns who are going to hurt other people, who are unstable. And second of all I believe that we need to make sure that certain types of guns used to kill people, exclusively, not for hunting, they should not be sold in the United States of America.”

I can't find it now, but there was a funny meme I saw the other day with Bernie saying something to the effect of "Just what America's been calling for, an old white socialist".

I know he is conservative in some areas, but if he happens to get the nomination I can't see how he has even a slight chance to win in a general.

When the election cycle started, I think I said that Sanders is to Hillary as Trump is to The rest of the GOP Candidates, in other words, he's a political gadfly with no real chance of winning, but he's bringing attention to a lot of issues and forcing a conversation around a lot of subjects that probably would have been mostly ignored had the discussion gone the way Hillary on the D side and Bush/Cruz/Rubio et al on the R side would have preferred that it go.

I don't think he'll get the nomination, but I think he's been good for the conversation as a whole. Eventually (not unlike Trump) people are going to have to decide A) whether he's got a real shot of winning and B) if he's someone the voters can actually picture as President. Interestingly, the longer Trump stays in contention, I think the longer Sanders hangs around as well.

Seems to me, that you've decided he's a non-option, because you have a particular notion of what a Socialist is. He does refer to himself as a 'democratic socialist' but it may not mean what you think.

Firstly- we already are socialist in many ways in this country, so it's all a matter of degree. i.e. we collect money from young people and give it to old people. it's called Social Security (and Medicare). We did this because we couldn't stand watching old people suffer, starve and die, because they were too old to work. Granted, you may not be in favor of such things.

He's not a proponent of a government controlled economy, if that's what you think it is. You may still not like him, but before you render an opinion, perhaps you should learn more about what he stands for (which he's very clear about), rather than what you think about how you've branded him.

He's pretty big on getting money out of politics. Reforming wall street, Strong on environmental concerns, women's rights, a higher minimum wage. He would like to change higher education- making it more financially available to all. And- he's not going to be the first guy to launch the US into a needless war. What I mostly like about him is that he's very clear about where he stands on things (unlike Hilary). He's consistent. Not a hypocrite and he's got the fire in the belly passion that we want in a leader.

but hey- if you believe in trickle down economics, and that the biggest problems in the US are that too many mexicans are pouring over the border, that women need to be put in jail for ending their unwanted pregnancies, and that in the name of religious freedom, same sex marriage should be illegal, and that the only way to keep america safe is to bomb Iran... then he's probably not the guy for you. If you're not sure about where Obama was born- then may I introduce you to President Trump?

you're characterizations/generalizations of Conservatives make me laugh.

As for Bernie, I would happily vote for him in the primaries because he has a zero percent chance of winning in the general. He may be consistent, but he is way out in left field from the American people.

btw, there are things that I do agree with him on, but he's still just another BIG spending politician who wants to run us further into the economic abyss. That is a loser in this economic climate.
