2016 Triathlons

nope, not too early. I had actually just started updating my mega list. I'll post it in a day or two when I get it updated. Most have not announced yet, but some have.

I know about KC Tri in May and plan on racing the sprint, as well as the Levenworth Tri early that month, are than any tris that are earlier than that?

It's a few hours away but there's the Trizou sprint (Pool swim) in Columbia, MO on May 1

Here's my list thus far. There are still quite a few holes. I've put "TBD" on races that usually happen, but are thus far unannounced. As far as earlier than KC Tri...the Columbia/Emporia options list are about it. There are some Lifetime indoor tris. Otherwise, you have to travel. Wife and I are doing IM New Orleans 70.3 in April. Galveston 70.3 is the other early season race within driving distance that is not indoor.

LQ will be the Saturday before Labor Day. They did confirm it will be back, but they don't make any publicity about until we're in the Summer months.

Cowboy up is confirmed for August 7 and is $60 today only (New Years Day special).

Do they really have Redman on a Monday?

Redman Tri is a Saturday race, it's on September 24th. Date is confirmed now, above was just TBD now we can update with correct date. The Redman Tri is also the ITU World Long Distance race which is not a traditional 70.3 or 140.6 distance. It is a 4km swim, 120km bike and 30km run (2.3 miles, 74.5 miles, 18.6 miles).

Bunch of updates....note, Sept 11 is shaping up to be a very popular date with lots going on for athletes. In addition to the triathlons, there is the Country Club Plaza 10K and the annual Patriot Run.

Interesting. Ultramax shows a date of 8/21/16, but it links to the old info. Have not heard anything.

You have the Little Applet August 14th but it is the same as the Manhattan Tri which is actually on September 11th. Holcomb is August 14th though. Oh and you can add the Ready, Set, Tri in Marion KS for September 10th.

Just heard the Jackson County Tri is no more. Not surprised, the Midwest Meltdown Tri only had 60 people or so. There's no many races now I guess, Tri-Saturation I suppose.

Is the 2017 calendar shaping up yet? I'm hoping to be ready for a 70.3 this year and will keep it local.

Yea, it sort of is but not for stuff longer than Olypmic.. I haven't bothered to put anything together yet though. You best bet for a 70.3 in this area is going to be the Legend Endurance Free State (June 4) or Ad Adstra (Sept 10) in Lawrence or the HalfMax at Innsbrook MO (near St. Louis) on June 10, or Redman in OKC (Sept 16). I'm not sure those could really be considered local.

Pigman in Iowa is dead. I am suspecting that BorderWars in St. Louis area is dead. Not alot of options beyond those.

Recommendation for a first timer between Legend or Halfmax in September?

Legend Ad Astra is a nice race. It is a challenging, but fair course. My wife did the 70 this year in preparation for IM Louisville and she felt it was a great challenge and prepared her well for Louisville. The bike course is rolling and the run is multiple loops but almost entirely flat (or false flats).

I've not done halfmax, but I've done a couple of shorter races on the same course. Halfmax is in June and that is a very difficult course. The bike course is hilly and the run course is also very hilly. Both are well organized and put on by very good/experienced race organizers.

You can't go wrong with either.

Logistically, Legend Ad Adstra is easier. Halfmax is in Innsbrook, MO. There's no hotels real close by and it takes place in a gated community/resort. Unless you rent a house on the lake, count on a 40-45 minute drive race morning, from a hotel in the middle of no where MO (it's not quite to St Louis). If you live in KC, you have a similar commute on race morning, but you get to sleep in your own bed the night before.
