Working on it....my boss has said I can have leave but I don't know how many days or if heroics like flying back from Australia the night of the race will be required or not. I really, really hope not. As of next year, we have NO guaranteed or paid personal leave days--anything besides sick days is unpaid and must be approved
(or not
) on a case by case basis. The Friday before the race happens to be a national holiday, so that makes things a bit better-- ideally I could get Thursday off to head down there, probably arriving very late Thursday or maybe Friday morning
(a lot of flights are red-eyes via Singapore or KL
), race Sunday, return Monday
(which would probably get me in very late Monday or even sometime Tuesday morning
) and take Tuesday off. Whether that will be granted.... I don't know. Just the idea of a redeye the night after a HIM makes me sick.
Anyway, I will probably do both races, assuming I can get healthy sometime. Felt better today but still having some asthma issues
(I do whenever I have a cold
) and my head starts to feel like a brick by about 7 PM. Have decided with my coach that I should go for a fast time at Calgary
(since I have plenty of time to train and rest up over the summer, and conditions should be moderate
), and just do Worlds for the trip/the experience, mainly due to the horrid timing.
As for "training", not much. 1800m of swimming. Had planned to do another 1000, but got kicked out when it started storming. Rainy season is slowly getting started again. It seems like only last week I got stormed out of another workout and was trying to explain to my coach about this delightful aspect of training here works. I swear....the entire last six months have kind of passed in a blur of schoolwork and training. Where does time go?
