Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I do an OWS, focus on sighting, establishing it into my rhythm and just generally being comfortable in the water. For distance I just do one of my routes, either 1300m or 1000m depending on which way the wind is blowing or if there are boats. Its normally a pretty easy swim with a few pick ups. Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It depends. If it is a local race where I am familiar with the course I just taper through my normal workouts. If it is a race I have not been to I will swim the course (if possible). My main focus of swimming the course is to familiarize myself with the course. I'm looking for landmarks to sight on. I'm looking at the entry and exit points. I'm looking at the angle of the sun (hopefully I'm in the water at about the same time I'd be racing) and which direction it's coming from. I'm noting any current, swells, waves, wind direction, etc. and filing that into my head.

If I can get out to my local OWS practice area, I'll do that and maybe do a WU and 500M at race pace. If that doesn't work, then that's in the pool instead. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll usually do a very short workout. Since I'm doing sprint races only this year, that might be as short as 800. I'll do a few laps at race pace, but mostly I just concentrate on form and being "long" in the water. |
