Pre-race routine:

Same as usual. Breakfast of two coffees, three eggs, toast. Got up early because I woke up just before alarm was supposed to go off. Didn't want to be groggy. Arrived at venue about an hour early. Snagged last aisle bike position in transition.
Event warmup:

Rode bike about 10 minutes in flip flops. Then hopped in pool and swam maybe 400m to get warmed up.
Swim
  • 07m 6s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Dive in kinda knocked the wind out of me. Turns were pretty bad too. Kept reverting to looking down the lane for some reason. Exit was try to jump out of poolin 11.5' water. I think i must have looked like a walrus trying to sumit a beachhead, although, they are probably more graceful than i was.
What would you do differently?:

Use the ladder to get out of the pool!!
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Felt good. Fast for me.
Bike
  • 43m 7s
  • 12.07 miles
  • 16.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall i felt pretty good about the bike. Only passed by one person, but didn't pass anyone myself. Was aiming for 16mph
What would you do differently?:

Practice the hills!! I also had no clue about the course, so I was somewhat tenative at some turms.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Could have done better here. Didnt take helmet off while running bike. Didnt take gloves off until i was on the run. I put them in my race belt, but probably wouldnt be able to do that if i needed to put gu in there too. Changed socks to avoid blisters on toes
What would you do differently?:

Multitask!
Run
  • 41m 23s
  • 3 miles
  • 13m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Couldn't keep my hr down! Ran almost whole distance, but did walk through water stations and whenever my hr got over 174. Goal was 14'/ mile
What would you do differently?:

Not much. It was a pretty good run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. Ate hald a turkey sandwich, drank some water and gatorade. Then packed up transition and waited for awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim could have been a little better. Run is big limiter, but I know that.

Event comments:

Nice, small race with associated kids races for families. It was a little late in starting (prerace meeting started five minutes after race was supposed to start). Several volunteers didn't show, so they were a little light on volunteers. Overall, it is a nice race in a good environment. Awards are given to top three in all categories. RD seems to know everyone's name, which is pretty cool when you don't know a lot of people in the race and you hear someone calling your name.

Great job.
It is probably good that you did not take off your helmet while running with bike, as that is usually a DQ.
