Subject: Recovery from OLY (B race)
Hi
I decided to do an OLY, which was not part of my original training plan. Looking for guidance on how to recover and for how long before getting back into HIM training. And should I jump right back into the workouts or reduce volume??
Thanks

Could you give a bit more context.

1. How do you feel physically?
2. How is your fatigue level?
3. How different was the OLY from the distance volume you are doing in current training?
4. How different was the OLY from the paces you are currently training?

The reason I ask is that if you are feeling decent and aren't fatigued AND your race wasn't too out of line from current distances and pace, then just head back into training.

I've done shorter races during training for HIM and IM events and most of the time went right back into my swim and bike and then by the end of the week was back on schedule for run too.

Assuming you raced hard and this doesn't seem like too much here's a starting point:

Monday - off or light swim
Tuesday - normal swim and/or light bike
Wednesday - normal swim/bike and first very easy run
Thursday - Saturday - normal swim/bike and easy running
Sunday - back to normal

Feeling a bit tired, it was a hot day, lost my water bottle so was a bit dehydrated. Distance comparable to current training level. I trained through the race. Paces were a bit faster than current training.

Shane;
This looks like a good starting point. Thank you! I'll hold off on a run 'til later in the week.

Now that you are several days into recovery, and back at training how are you doing? I've noticed that moving really helps with my recovery.

I agree with this but also tie it in with how my body is feeling. I raced almost Olympic distance triathlon this past Sunday and was able to jump on the bike trainer this morning but due to some lingering tightness in my hamstrings, I kept my effort in Zone 2 (easy). I plan on doing a short super easy paced run later and will insert some short walks depending on how I'm feeling throughout the workout. The easy running is to be taken seriously.

Did an open water swim this morning, about 2750 easy. Felt good to be back in the water. Really easy, short run. Feeling tired....tomorrow hope to get an hour endurance ride, and maybe another short easy run. Thanks cbrave for checking in!

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09
