Good morning BT!  Off the the races for me...bring on my new freshmen (and one class Honors sophomores) English students!

4:45am:  :40 minute run

5:30am:  :40 minutes upper body strength/core

This is our older daughter's senior year...booohoooo! Most of my training this year will be stress relief! Ha!

What's going on for fall races?  I think I've decided on a Thanksgiving half marathon.

Have a great day BT!

I ran a tough trail 1/2 marathon yesterday.

Have a great year! Just a one-hour trainer ride for me here, watching video of the women's Olympic marathon. Very happy that South African Broadcasting posted the whole thing, start to finish, on YouTube. No cuts to commercials, no idiotic voiceovers, just continuous footage of the runners. Had to force myself to stop watching last night and finish this morning--weird combo of horrified fascination (if you've ever run a marathon, I think you can understand what I mean by that) and, "I wonder if I could have....if I had....back in the day."

I date myself here, but I remember the first women's Olympic marathon in 1984 like it was yesterday. (In fact, I was so inspired by it that I ran my own, at age 14, and kinda sorta narrowly missed making Trials then. It was a BIG part of my youthful dreaming....)

Not advisable for a good night's sleep. Dreamed all night that I was Shalane Flanagan, trying to hold my own with the Kenyans and Ethiopians. Mile after mile, split after mind-bending split (was actually attempting to do the math in my sleep!), sun glaring off the water in Rio and baking my brains out.

In my dreams, quite literally!

Rest day for me. My A race is in one week - this week, three intense workouts, followed by three easy.

I think I'm going to do one more tri in October. Then, instead of racing, I'm going to do some HR training. My HR is really high when I exercise (but not resting!). By the talk test, there's no concern, but I think if I work on getting my HR more efficient, that will pay dividends. Looks to be a pretty boring and tedious fall/winter.

Have a great day and week!

I'm doing SuperFrog HIM Sept 25th. I'm about 2weeks behind in training, so I have no idea how this is going to turn out.

Also doing Long Beach 1/2 marathon Oct 9th.

have a good day BT

35 minute run with drills waiting for me after work!

Kim, what Thanksgiving half marathon are you doing? Let's chat

Good luck on your first day. It's the second week of school here and the true personalities of the natives is coming out. Pray for me!

I did my usual 2 minute plank followed by 22 pushups. After finishing up breakfast and a bunch of errands I hit the bike trail. I got in just shy of 14 miles going a slightly different route than my usual 12.5 mile route. My back felt a lot better than the past few times I rode; don't know if the new handlebar stem was causing it or the yard work I did the day after I put on the stem. Both perhaps, but it seems a lot better now.

As for upcoming races, I have a 5k run this weekend. I think the following weekend I am gong to do a sprint tri. Two weeks after that it's another 5k. Our YMCA does a 5k/4 mile Turkey Trot that we did as a family last year and will hopefully again this year. My wife and daughter did the 5k, while I did the 4 mile. They both start at the same time and place and end at the same finish line. The 4 mile course goes around an extra block about halfway through the course so they are almost an identical course too. Last year I caught up with them pretty close to where the two routes join back together, and my daughter ran the last part of the race with me. We had to stop and walk a bit about a half mile from the finish, but naturally we sprinted when we saw the line (with me taunting her that I was gonna win!). I haven't really looked much to see if there were any other races that look like fun.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

I have been able to swim 200-300 yards without stopping for the past couple of weeks, but this morning I couldn’t swim more than 50. Could not eating make a big differance?

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.

Once you caught your breath, it occurred to you that finishing even a short triathlon might be harder than you thought. After a few "laps" you thought, "I can't believe I'm so out of shape."
