Subject: Ankle injury 10 days out of HM
I rolled my ankle pretty severely Wednesday night at an indoor soccer game. I finally have a little mobility this morning and can put some weight on it, but it is still pretty swollen. I usually wouldn't care but I actually trained hard for this one in hopes of running close to 1:30...and I'm cheap and already paid for the race. I'm now 8 days out and wondering what the best options for conditioning are before the race. Obviously I need the swelling to go down, and there's no way I'm running for a few more days.

That's a tough one. Keep babying it for as long as you can. Might be  game-day decision.

I did something similar 10 days out from a HIM. I ended up DNS. No way would it be ready for that - took another several weeks not to feel sore even flutter kicking during swim.

I've rolled my ankle a kajillion times - it always behaved a little differently in recovery.

RICE and Advil for 72 hours - then re-assess.  At least in a HM you're not cutting like you would in soccer/basketball/volleyball).  An ankle lace-up brace always helped me, but I'm not sure I'd want to run 13+ miles in that thing.

8 days out might be just enough.  Don't sweat the training, the hay's in the barn and nothing you do is going to improve your fitness. 

You just want to have it go down as little as possible while you shed the fatigue, so see where you are on Monday and hopefully you can resume doing something at that point and get running again Tues/Wed.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

I did more therapy, more stretches, more exercises and stopped running for over six months. I am just coming back to triathlon after a year off due to this ankle injury.

Injuries do happen, and we would like to discuss a few injuries that are common. All of these injuries can fall under the category of what are commonly called overuse injuries.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
