Autism Speaks 8k - Run

Autism Speaks
Overcast
Total Time = 35m 23s
Overall Rank = 20/265
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/16
Pre-race routine:

My company is one of the sponsors of this terrific event, and we had a large team (as usual) supporting the cause. Was great to see so many people before (and after) the race. Kim and the two older kids ran (kids did a relay), which was a blast.
Event warmup:

Mile jog with Kim.
Run
  • 35m 23s
  • 8 kms
  • 04m 25s  min/km
Comments:

Came into this one in middling shape, at best, so it was at least a minute slower than last year. Fun, either way. Went back to finish with Kim and then back again with Kim to finish with Ted (our oldest, who ran the anchor lap of the relay with Meghan). Then cheered myself hoarse for the rest of the finishers!
What would you do differently?:

Get in shape?
Post race
Warm down:

Beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only lack of training. Nothing unusual...

Event comments:

Great cause, great crew, family, friends, co-workers and post-race local craft beer. Just a great day!

This was the 2016 race.  Report was up within a year, so... better late than never?

Good to see you posting around here again!  Who was (were) the craft beer sponsor(s)?  Austin has a pretty fantastic selection!

Nice race and always good to have the family join as well!  You racing this year?

Thanks!  Good to be back at it (took a couple years off with just some fun runs mixed in - like this one).  You've certainly stayed with it!

I **think** it was Austin Beerworks, but miiiight have been another, slightly more obscure local brewery (just can't place it).  Three or four recovery beers in and who can remember?

Been getting back into racing slowly this year.  Couple HMs (Austin this weekend), a few 10k/8k/5k runs.  Thinking of a spring tri and then evaluating what I have time for this fall after some summer travel.  Maybe a HIM, maybe a full marry (Austin next year?).  Just not sure how much time I want to put in across the whole year, so might limit what I race (I love races but have trouble just strolling along - I like to RACE, but that requires consistency for my old legs to do).

You?  Big plans this season?

Matt

Giving Galveston 70.3 another shot in early April.  Kinda going for broke on that race....potentially chasing sub-5 if I don't blow up, but totally willing to blow up.  I got into 70.3 WC in Chattanooga, so I don't have anything to lose from blowing up at Galveston if it comes to that....and everything to gain (either a lot of knowledge or a lot of success)!

Have a 10k at the end of this month, a 40k TT at the start of next month, and a focus (A race) 40k TT in May.  Looking to be a good year!

BTW, if you haven't tried Pinthouse Pizza in Austin (there are two locations), go!  Their Electric Jellyfish is something I dream of!

I think that's about the statute of limitations - well done!
