Subject: RE: 6.8.17 Thursday! Last day of school for kids and celebrated it with the "daily double".
6 AM: 3000m of swimming. Two kids, one of them a fifth grader, actually showed up for the club practice on the last day of school. Talk about dedication!
5:45 PM--One hour trainer ride; mostly easy with some high-cadence pickups.
School ended at noon today and as per usual custom I had the kids lined up the door after "The Final Countdown" and they were getting their choice of a hug or high-five as they left. Lots of tearful girls and one tearful boy---they get a bit more emotional about the end of elementary school than most other years. Then all of a sudden at the end of my "hugging line" appears a tenth grader--one of my former students! The room has two doors--she'd dropped by to visit, seen the year-end ritual in progress, and quietly joined the line! So cool to be able to see my "old students" grow up. (I also had a former student return a classroom library book five years later, while I was in the middle of class a few weeks ago. That gave everyone a good laugh! )
1/2 day for teachers tomorrow (maybe 2/3-depends on my efficiency ) then school will be out! |
