Dumbest thing I ever did involved going through customs in a middle eastern airport.  Any more data than that will have to be face to face and after more than a couple beers.

When I was 14 a friend and I "borrowed" my mom's car while she was taking a nap.  It was a stick shift and my friend steered while I shifted the gears.  I don't know how we made it out of the neighborhood but we did and drove the car right through the sign at the entrance of the neighborhood next to ours. We landed in the front yard of some lady's house and she felt so bad for us, she called her pastor to come pray with us.  We must have looked pretty pitiful because the cops didn't charge us w/ anything when they saw us crying and praying w/ the pastor.  The car was totaled and my Dad was upside down on the payments.  I don't know how he survived my sisters and I!

Well, I didn’t really do this, I was just an unwilling victim

In college, after a night of drinking, A couple of buddies and I went to the local mall to pick up another buddy who was getting off work. The only sober one was driving and he’s the one that lost his mind. We were hanging out the windows and making a lot of noise, when we were ran down by the mall police who was on foot. Dumb thing number 1 was to stop the car. He then made us all get out of the car, so there we stood in the mall parking lot ( beers in hand ) leaning against the car getting hassled by this guy. He finally decided that it was late and to avoid all the paperwork, he would let us go if we poured out our beer. We did as instructed and then watched in horror, like Bluto when they raided the Delta house, as our SOBER friend proceeded to open the trunk, pull out the cooler, and empty probably 20-25 beers onto the pavement.

That was 20 years ago and he’s still buying the drinks every time we get together.

I was out climbing once, had just set up a top rope, and was about to rappel down. At the last second before removing my safety, I realized that I had only put one side of the rope though my figure 8. For those of you (smart people) that have never climbed - this means I was about to release myself to a very quick trip to the ground, and likely death. I like triathlon, it's such a safe sport.

I also decided to use some white camping fuel to try and get a fire started using some very wet wood ... when my facial hair re-grew, I decided I would not try that again. Amazing how little of that stuff is needed to create a small explosion.

I will only list one ...for now..

haha.. lets just say that it happened at the end of a long day diving and I may have had too much nitrogen in me and not thinking straight... But it involved a home made pneumatic spudgun, a low pressure inflator hose, flour, and a lighter.....haha Can you say huge flame ball drifting in the wind. .... There were a few eye brows harmed in this experiment.

I have quite a few, but these are probably 2 of the biggest:

One day a friend and I had a great idea to spray hairspray all over balsa wood airplanes......then light them on fire......then throw airplanes into a grassy field. This was in July or August as well so everything was pretty dry. After the planes crashed, we walked over and put out the flames. We had forgotten to put out the little drops of liquid fire that had dripped from the planes when we threw them. About 45 minutes later we are leaving his house and notice a raging fire in the field. We later learned about 3 acres burned down before the fire department were able to put out the flames. Ooops.

We had just gotten cable tv for the first time and HBO was showing the movie "BMX Bandits." Well I thought it was pretty cool how they coasted down the road, standing up on their seats. I got the bright idea to try it out. Oh yeah, we lived on top of a hill. I get some speed up, jump up and plant my feet on the seat. Im still holding the handle bars but gaining speed, I have the bike under control and figure now is a good time to let go of the handle bars. For about a nano-second I did it. Then I noticed the curb at the bottom of the hill rushing up to me. I reach back down to grab the handle bars but they arent there. Thats when I realized I was flying head first through the air. I remember thinking to myself "this is really going to hurt." I was wrong it hurt REALLY BAD. I picked myself up grab my bike and start pushing it up the hill. Thats when the neighbor saw me and rushed over and picked me up and ran me home. The end result was, when I had landed, I had somehow bitten through my lower lip and it was flopping around like a barn door, not to mention the salad bowl worth of gravel that had embeded in my face from dragging across the gravel.

With the better part of a fifth of rum in my system, I stood on the pedestal of the Lee Monument in Richmond and contemplated jumping off. One of my buddies cautioned me against it and I replied
"AAAWW whatsth the worsth that culd happen"
I jumped
I landed
I heard a sound not unlike the cracking of knuckles
I felt a bit of pain and was certain I had sprained my ankle
I limped the few blocks back to my bike (I rode my bicycle everywhere)
I got on my bike and discovered that, even with the anesthetic properties of the rum, I could not trun the pedals with my right foot
I cinched down the toestrap across my left foot and proceeded to ride the half-mile home one-legged.
Upon arriving home I retired to my bed (a five foot tall loft bed) and passed out.
I awoke the next morning with my ankle swollen to the size of a purple grapefruit, and I was five feet off the ground.
I spent six weeks on crutches
so ...never ask "what's the worst that could happen?"

When I was (much) younger I had a paper round that was sooo boring. People used to have milk delivered each morning by men on little milk floats and people used to leave little notes out with the previous days emptys saying things like "no milk today" - "one extra pint today" and "going on holiday for two weeks" - for some reason I used to find it amusing to swap the notes around and on one occasion even leave my own "please ring bell; husband away"

In fact this type of idiocy stayed with me for a few extra years - coming home drunk from the pub one night I convinced my mate that it would be funny to swap the 'for sale' signs round on houses so the next day half a dozen people woke up with their houses for sale and the same number who had previously had a board in the garden no longer did.

I also phoned in sick to my Saturday job once only to turn up several times on television at the Wimbledon tennis championships in the crowd. Kept my job in the Disney Store but copped a right rollocking from the manager who was far too 'Disneyfied' to do it properly. Nice bloke.

Heh.  I'm not going to tell ya'll about the stupidist thing I've ever done.  However, I did just cut the tip of my thumb off while cooking (talking on the phone, watching football, and chopping vegetables apparently don't mix).  Good thing that a little O+ in the chili never hurt anyone.

PSA- If anyone out there is about to buy any handmade Hattori knives, they are not kidding when they say that they are REALLY sharp.

I once put $.25 in a newpaper vending machine and took all the newspapers instead of just taking one. I was going through a rebellious phase at that time.

I've torn the tag off more than one mattress/pillow. I snub my nose at the phrase "Under the penalty of Federal law."

Hey, my brother and I used to do this too! We'd 'buy' all the papers for $.25 and then we'd stand out in front of Winn Dixie and sell the papers!

I was going though a criminal phase at the time....
