Elite 4583 | Subject: 2.15.18 Thursday Training Good morning BT! 4:30am: :40 minute walk/run--mostly walk 1 minute/run 2 minutes. Leg felt 'ok' but now that I'm done, did some strengthening/stretching it actually feels the best it has in two weeks. In hindsight maybe the long break from running actually made my legs a little more sore if that makes sense. Who knows...kind of tired of analyzing what the problem is--I'm just glad I actually ran today. Quick comment on yesterday's school shooting in Florida--as a teacher every time I see this unfold my heart gets heavier and heavier for our students and our teachers. It's beginning to feel like we're heading into danger every morning we enter our schools. I'm sad for today's students that this has become commonplace. We all have those students that we wonder about...and then feel awful for thinking that...but we have to now. I'm just at a loss. Have a good day...on the bright side--tomorrow is Friday! |

702 Aledo, Texas | Subject: RE: 2.15.18 Thursday Training Good afternoon! 11:30 - 2,250 yards, with scaling tempo intervals being the main set. I hit all my times, so that was nice. Of course, it's terrible that our schools are now a place of fear. Our society is one in which violence and death are glorified. Something has to change. Have a good day, and be safe. |

My swim today: Description:200m easy swim WU (6/10) 100m kick WU (6/10) 100m easy swim WU (6/10) 100m easy kick WU (6/10) Repeat TWICE 6x100m on 1:45 6x50m MAX sprints with 15s rest 6x25m MAX sprints with 15s rest 2-3 mins rest 200 easy recovery swim (6/10) By the way...the school shooting, though tragic and awful...is not a common event with a high rate of death when compared to the overall number of avoidable deaths in USA. There is a topic on this in the politics section. Though highly visible, and media friendly...even for a firearms death, mass shootings are a fraction. As a teacher, you can rest easy media hype aside. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/injury.htm |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 2.15.18 Thursday Training Kim, I feel for you. I'll be honest--it's one reason I've never considered teaching high school. It's a sickness with our society, and one I'm sort of sheltered from living overseas. There are kids and adults with problems everywhere, but here they have fairly easy access to weapons of "mass destruction". Beautiful day here after epically awful weather yesterday--almost eight non-stop hours of "winter mix". Unfortunately we had errands to run in downtown Boise (about 10 miles from here) and Meridian (6 miles) so I was driving around through the yuck. Hoping to get in another run in the park. We're leaving early Sunday for Vietnam. Looking forward to getting back to work and normal training again (and warm weather). |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: 2.15.18 Thursday Training My hats off to all you teachers out there. My daughter has some great teachers (she's in her last semester of H.S.) so great, she makes them homemade fudge, cookies, cakes & such all the time. I finally had a good swim since my shoulder injury last year. I did a set of 20 x 100 then threw in a set of 10 x 50 before my cool down which resulted in like a 2 hour lunch today (glad I don't punch a time clock). Have a great Friday/Weekend and stay safe out there. |

1508 Cypress, Texas | Subject: RE: 2.15.18 Thursday Training Hey BT! 5:30 am: 60 minute run. I am not sure if this was a Z2 run or a Z3 run. Going off my Time Trial in January this run was 100% in the Z2 HR zone and 100% in the Z3 running pace zone. 12:15 pm: 30 minute swim. Lots of 50's and 100's with a few 200's. Have a great work out day. P.S. I didn't hear anything about the Florida school shooting until my wife asked me what I heard about it last night. She had to fill me in on things. It made me feel sick. I don't like to hear details of violence or crimes which is why I don't watch rated R or even most PG 13 media. That is also part of the reason that for the past few months I made it a point to only listen to the news reports on the way to work on Mondays and then keep them turned off for the rest of the week. They rehash the same stories all week so I figure I don't miss too much but don't have to dwell on the negativity in the word all week that way. Yes, this has become common. There was a lady in my Marathon training group 7-8 years ago when I lived in Tulsa that was an English teacher in a Tulsa Public school. There was a spree of armed home invasions and police finally caught the guys and they turned out to be some of her students. She made it very clear that talking about the guys that were breaking into peoples homes and robbing them at gun point was NOT a topic that they could discuss in her class room. The students all complained and came to the defense of the guys that were caught saying that they were their class mates and they should be trying to help them through their troubles not turn their back to them. Pretty scary huhh? They even went as far as saying the teacher would probably do the same things if in their circumstances if she needed money and didn't have it (as if teachers are rich and high school kids can't get a job is guess)? I don't envy teachers. My prayers are with you.
So... back to focusing on positive things for the rest of the week. Edited by BlueBoy26 2018-02-15 3:36 PM |

623 | Subject: RE: 2.15.18 Thursday Training Shoulder strengthening followed by a 3.35 mile fast run. I can’t wrap my head around school shootings. It seems like when I was in school that was just something that would have never happened. Can’t imagine the pain the loved ones of the victims have nor the damage to the psyche of the survivors. |
