Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 50s
Overall Rank = 150/441
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 20/38
Pre-race routine:

Awake in plenty of time, good nights sleep. B-fast of oatmeal and juice in the car on the way. arrived at the race site in plenty of time in am. Got T-2 all organized and on to the bus to race start.

Lots and lots of visualization the night before and positive self talk about 'racing' and going in hard for this race. Mostly to have fun and enjoy the day but also to really strive to 'race'. In addition, I was registered in a fire/police division and I figured if I hammered the race I should be able to place out of the 10 guys in the division.
Event warmup:

set up T-1. Met up with Bodonuts on the beach. Did a short swim around.met up with Bodonuts and his fam. His dad is a cool guy!

Picture perfect weather and venue.

Comments:

WOW!! really, really happy with this swim. Bestest swim I have had ever!! ALl kinds of positive self talk. Got right in near the front of the pack, kicked all the time, pushed hard on stroke cadence, rotated and worked the hips. Didnt get freaked out over getting grabbed or bumped and did a lot of my own.
Kept swimming right to the point my fingers hit the bottom and then stood up and saw "13 min. something" on my watch!! wow!! Then I ran! to T-1.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.want to do it again!!
Transition 1

Comments:

No "t" times, but I know what I did on the bike so I figure about 3-4 mins. Little bit of a distance around to the back of the bike racks. Got stuff off and bike stuff on pretty quickly for me. smooth. ran with bike to mounting area and got up to speed quickly.

didnt wear socks and didnt have problems. no shades etheir, may have been a good idea.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 40m 39s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 20.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed the bike hard. Kept up a good cadence. Watched for the hills and downhills. Saw lots of good numbers on the speedometer. Rode my old steel framed race bike. Stayed aero.
What would you do differently?:

not much. just wondered what I'd be able to do on a really nice bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again no 'T-2 times'. I think they are all part of the bike leg, hence why the bike time was 5 min slower than what computer said.
I got a little confused trying to find my rack and where I put my sneakers. T-2 is in a different spot that T-1 so a bit confusing.

had socks all rolled up and waiting in shoes.
What would you do differently?:

wish I could remember where I put my speedlaces.
Run
  • 25m 57s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 07m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt really good right from the start.Kept up the good pace with an eye on the clock. Just kept pushing it as fast and comfortable as possible. Had enough at the end to push a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some drinks. Met up with pjostack, kathyg and bodonuts. met up with another BTer 'chuckwagon', nice guy.

I was able to meet and beat my race goals!!! I did this race as my 2nd ever tri 3 yrs ago. Great to be back! Able to get 2nd place , woohoo!!! in the fire/police division. lol...1st was only 15 seconds out of my grasp!! can you believe that?! wow! I am really just glad to be able to race less than a week after firmman 1/2 Im, to be able to enjoy a perfect and peaceful day with BT friends!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

speedlaces, 15 extra pounds, carbon bike,

Event comments:

fantasticaly great scenic venue, well organized, low key, great after race atmosphere.

Only pet peeve is to mark the run course with mile markers. I mean, how hard can it be to put up sandwich boards with a '1', '2' and '3'!

Glen , You had a great all aound race...fast in everything!

I was a little mad about the mile markers too! They had them last year, I thought.

Just think...if you had your speed laces you would have won 1st!
