Interview should be scheduled soon. Actually, it's not my first choice of places to live in Hawaii. Very touristy, high housing prices even by Hawaii standards, periodic effects on air quality from the volcano, too hot and sunny
(really
) unless you can find a place a bit higher up the slopes, and, if I can't get back into tri again at a high level
(and maybe even if I could
), I think having a front row seat at the IM World Championships might get really old, really fast. It's one thing if you just like to watch; it's another if you really wish you were competing....Really more enthused about Oahu
(I went to grad school there, long ago
) or Maui.
On the other hand, if I CAN get back to a reasonable level, there are special Kona slots reserved only for Hawaii residents
(on any island
). I believe you compete for them at Hawaii 70.3. Possibly Kona proper has its own quota as well.
(No, this is not why I am considering Hawaii. Basically I just hate winter. I don't see the point of it, really!
)
Just crazy lately. Hawaii must have just opened their mainland recruiting season this week. I have had at least a dozen phone calls or-mails in the past 24 hours and am having to vet them by grade level and location. Which island? How close to the volcano? How close to the nearest hospital?
(With an 80 year old mom, don't want to be too far away from the hospital, nor, for breathing, real estate, insurance, sanity, and general safety purposes, too close to the volcano!
)
