Well yesterday I did 3 miles on the trendmill in 30 mins which is faster than my 5k pr well assuming if I did the extra minute I would beaten it by 32 secs.

I think I am going to try for a 3.1 in 30 minutes and then I will no longer be a slow bugger. .

Slow Buggers must prove they can CONSISTENTLY go <10min/mile before you receive your graduation papers! One race or one training session, while very awesome, does not merit a Promotion.   My 5K PR is 29:17, but I just did one 3 weeks ago in 32:49..hence I am a firmly entrenched SB!!

I'll give a 12/31/08 Graduation a shot, but no promises!

Sounds good!

Except that I'm training at longer distances ... most of my runs are 10K or more ... my goal is to sub-60 a 10K.

Did a 9 min mile and a 10.45m mile in a row. It's a start, now i just have to be consistent.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a 10 min mile by 12/31/08

Huge pat on the back from me, but even a bigger one from yourself.  Keep it up...it can only get better, Right?!?!  I'd totally buy you a cold one for a job well done!

Edit: Sorry. Had to fix a gramatical error.  I'm not anal!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! It's nice to know there are other people out there struggling through the run. At least we're out there doing it, that's what I keep telling myself.

I ran my first 10:00 mile last week!  This week, 3 miles, 34 minutes. Undecided  I really have been trying to get faster but I don't seem to make much progress.  I read that if you want to run faster, then you have to just run faster.  Umm, it doesn't work for me, does it work for anyone else?  I can run a 10:00 mile but cannot sustain it for longer.  Sigh.  At least we are in this together!

Hi! I just found this fourm. I am very slow! I normally run about a 12 minute mile. I can speed it up to about 11:30 if I am in a 5K. I used to be on the track team and got lapped running the mile. I'm glad I'm not the only one in this slow running club
Is there a slow swimming and bicycling club too? I'm slow at all 3 sports!

I have to post - I had the best running night ever in my life tonight - am I still a slow bugger - you betcha!

have I made progress, absolutely!

cuz I'm lazy efficient, here is the update from my log

Holy freakn' buckets - did you see that run!? Yes folks I did it - I ran six miles!!!! Not one single walk break - even cooler is that I felt really good the whole entire way

Distance is estimated based time it took me for the last 1.5 miles (I was able to clock that with my odometer - the rest of the run was through a park and residential area of town). I'd be willing to bet money that I didn't go at a faster pace the last 20 min- lol. I just felt steady the whole way.

I got out of work later than I had hoped to - which meant a later start to my workouts than planned, which meant, no way that I was going to get both a run and a swim in tonight. I seriously need to get my azz out of bed in the morning when I have two workouts in one day and it's not a brick.

Anyway, since I had to choose, I chose the run, cuz it's my weakness - it was pretty cool - it was pouring right before I left the building - I'm thinking great, now I'm going to have to do the dreadmill again. Just as I walked out the doors, the rain came almost to a stop -

I thought, what the heck, it's not like I'm going to melt if I get wet. So I took off - it was just a light summer/spring rain - I enjoyed feeling the rain on my face, and the quiet of the evening -

I finished up, stretched - got in my car, and the deluge began - It was POURING, I could hardly even see the road driving back to the apartment.

Wow, did I luck out!

Just wondering if other slow buggers were still out there.....

I'm definitely a slow bugger....always have been. Started tris in 2006, did my first half mary in January 2007 and averaged 12min/mile for the half mary. My pace did drop to a 10:30 min/mile pace for ONE 5K race in March 2007 and that was the last time I saw that. Got off running for a while, but recently decided to come back...

Started training for a marathon in June....started out at 13min/mile and well, I can't seem to come off that pace at all! I can't even run faster than that on a short run or a 5K. Weird thing is that when I run with a group, I can run faster, but when I run by myself (which is 85% of the time), I just can't go faster....legs feel slow, heavy, can't go faster.

I run long runs with a group on Saturdays and so far my best pace is about 13 min/mile (for our longest run of 12 miles last week). My best pace by myself was a recent 3 mile run at 12:45 min/mile.

Does anyone know why I seem to have this physical/mental block?

I'm still running though....I hope to break through this barrier someday soon.
