just thought i'd raise a challenge to like-minded folks who run but still haven't hit the magic 10min mile mark. my running has gotten slower over the past few months, though the distances have improved.

i was thinking if we post our training and race times in here and we can encourage each other in a realistic way. anybody who can do sub-10min miles consistently can bugger off!

so...todays run was 2miles and i managed 11mins 10 seconds per mile; it was windy, my belly hurt, my breathing pattern sucked for some of it, and i had to do my first ever hill (ok it was a short incline but hey i live in flatsville)

anybody else?

Um, 10mm is what I can hold for about 1/4 mile at an all-out sprint.  Yeah.

Most of my longer runs this summer have been around 13mm's.  Seriously.  I ran 12's for the Houston Half Marathon in January and would like to beat that, keeping my average at 11:30's, for a total time of 2:30  on Januray 14 '07.  And I'd like toget to where I can hold it under 11:00's for the shorter runs under 5 miles.

My "long" run this weekend will be 6 miles, I can time that and check back in for a starting point.  I probably need more consistency.  Cooler weather helps too.

There's nothing like just getting out there and logging the miles. Keep a consistent running schedule and run smart pacing, don't try to get it all at once. Give it time and you'll all get there!

I'm pulling for you slow buggers!

Me, me, me, me! Today's run was: 37m 18s for 3.52 miles (10m 36s /mile). That's about as fast as I can go so far for that distance.

My long run pace: 1 h28m 55s for 7.36 miles (12m 05s /mile). Obvious improvement needed there!

Hi Sappho

You know how we're planning to meet up for the Bear next year? Well, given that I've just proclaimed myself Prime Minister of the Leicester branch of Slow Buggers Are Us, I thought that if I start running now, and you start now as well, we'll meet in the middle to carbo load before the Bear, probably on the day before the race!

No wait, I might not quite be there yet....

I've consoled myself that I'm at least running faster than I swim, so deep is my desperation at running slower than some people walk!!

I love the password, but I don't think that I can even fathom the "like to run" club.  It sounds a bit scary.

I'm seriously in need of a slow runners club! In my first race there was a woman speed walking who passed me......it was a bit embarressing! I'm working on endurance and time as I know the time will improve but sometimes it's so frustrating to run a 11 or 12/min. mile. That's when it seems EVERYONE is faster than me. I'm hoping to do a 1/2 mary on Thanksgiving (11/23) but I'm not sure yet. I also hope to do a 10k on 11/11.

Hmmm....I'd definitely like to join - right now I'm a little under the weather, but soon   I would also like to add a little Canadian to it - the 10 minute 2.56 KM....doesn't sound quite as nice - but it's all I know! haha

I'm not really sure how fast I'm starting this at, but I know it takes me at least an hour to run 10KM...I'd like to do that much faster

Add another slow bugger Canadian. I am currently doing worse than 10 min (although I'm a bit confused - the conversion is 1.6 km to the mile, right?). I want to try to do a 5 k in November sub 25 min which I think would be 8 min mile if I have the math right.

At least I'm fast on the bike

It sure is just 1.6 - it was early morning for me...or at least that's my excuse!  And they let people like me into Grad school..LOL

I certainly feel like I belong and technically I do, but it's becoming a near thing. For sure, my training has been mostly much, much slower. I did manage a sub 10m/m 5km run last year but it is not a consistent thing. My 10k race pace, twice, has been about 10:30 something and my first 1/2 marathon this past spring was barely under 11:00 m/m. Those are all out efforts though. I've been really concentrating on my run for the last few weeks. Then, a few nights ago during a group training run, I almost broke 10 m/m but not quite.

I'd like to offer lots of encouragement to all the club members, while I strive mightily to disqualify myself.

Note: The metric pace for 10 minute miles is about 6:13 / km.

"WAIT UP!"

Tomorrow will be a good indicator of where I am and what I have to do. My first 5k in a while. shooting for 33 min or under, and no ITB pain.  If I lose to 2 boys, I will owe them 30 bucks each. I think I could win bc they are kinda cocky and not so experienced, even if they are fit kids, and they will likely sprint mile 1, and then pass out. If that happens, they have to wash my car. So I have a real incentive to get out of this club ASAP!

good luck hollis! i've got my first ever 5k next sunday so will report back. no boys to beat, but a desire to make sure no bugger walking passes me! managed a 2.8 mile run today (was meant to be 2.75!) and kept up a 10m34s pace and the route was up hill and down twice. felt weird not running off the bike and my legs felt more jelly-like than they do in a brick. anybody else find this? however it does appear to make my legs slightly fresher which is a good thing

so, I'm wondering if I qualify for the club.  I recently ran my first 10K at a 9:00min/mi pace, and did a 5K training run a little faster than that, BUT those were pretty much all-out efforts.  Check my logs, I almost never run faster than about 10:30min/mi.  Usually, I'm around 11:00min/mi.

So what is the standard exactly:  COMPLETELY unable to run faster than 10:00min/mi, or MOSTLY unable to run faster?   Technically, I am capable of doing it, but it kicks my @$$, so I hardly ever do it, and really I FEEL  like a slow bugger.

Would love to join, but I understand if you tell me to take a 10:00min/mi hike.

Can I join?

Am hoping to get to 10 minute miles at some point... Have been working the run much more this season than ever before... Have hit 10:50's in my 2 shorter triathlons (one a sprint with a 5 mile run and the other an Olympic) and just under 12's in my HIM in July... Sept. HIM was 12:XX because of hills and general burnout.

I want to play!

Glad I'm not the only one.
