Well, I've never left. Covid related work has killed my tri training. Im still planning on doing IM AZ, this will be IM #26. This year my goal is just to cross the finish line. I've only swam 4 times (I am now going to swim at least 20 more times now that pool has opened) and have only run 386 miles this year and biked about 1700 miles. I am not going to kid myself and try to get back to 12 hours on this one. Life as an ICU doc has been long hours, often 14+ hour days. Sometimes I find no energy to train at all. 21++ shifts a month for the last 18 months!!!!.
I am not tiring in my Covid battle. Nor am I tiring in my quest to do 1-2 IM's a year. To me Ironman is about "can do". I can do this. I know my body, I know my limits. I love the tri life! If I have to walk the marathon, I will do do spending my time cheering everyone else!

I don't see many posters here anymore, I've been a member since I think 2005. This was once a robust site full of enthusiastic peeps. Well, I never left. I love the training logs.

I suspect only a few people will see this, but if you do, know that this Ironman has never quit. I hope this motivates you!!!

To those who DO read this, never give up! Chase your dreams! Life is short! Create your opportunities!!!!

When I'm on my death bed (why would anyone ever buy their death bed??? (sorry bad joke)
But when the time comes, I can accept hundreds of failures, but just one regret will sting like hell!!!!!

Cheers!! Jimmyb

Awesome! I don't even want to think about some of the things you've seen during Covid but I do believe having an IM to look forward to would be great therapy for you. Good luck on race day but the big win is going to be just showing up..

Cheers to you!Im no Dr but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once!

There's a lot to be said about base fitness and you're story is proof. Maintaining some routine of fitness over an extended amount of time pays dividends when you need to dig deep. Best of luck in your journeys & im sure you'll find success however you finish

Welcome back! Great to see you!

The Facebook groups for races have pulled away a lot of the chit chat and questions from the forums here, but the logs and training plans are still solid, and we still are happy to see you!

Ironman #26? Wow! So impressive.

I am a geriatric nurse practitioner. I understand how drained you must feel from all the hours you've been working over the past 1.5 year but THANK YOU for all you do!

Your post inspired me!

Life is short so live it up!

Thanks again!

Good luck!

Jimmyb,

I can't imagine how difficult your working life has been in the era of Covid. I am a big believer in keeping your priorities straight and it seems like you are doing just that with your aspiration to do another Ironman. I salute you.

I am planning to do my second 70.3 at age 67. I've not done one since age 61. I decided it might be a good idea to get a treadmill stress test before I start to bulk up my training. I guess it did not go so well, and I will be having a left heart ventricular angiography this Friday, two days from now.

My cardiologist has done a handful of Ironmans and is a climber that has summited Everest. Small world.

Wish me luck. And thanks for your service to the medical community in this challenging time and congrats on your Ironman plans.

Well, I am the proud new owner of a coronary stent. I had 80% blockage on one artery. But the doc says I will be good to go and should ramp up training in the next couple weeks.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread but I am following your re-entry to triathlon story and will be doing this journey with you.

Wow, that's amazing you were cleared to train again so quickly. Glad it worked out that way instead of the other possible direction that could have gone...
