Pre-race routine:

Nothing really. This isn't as much a race as just a well organized ride of pain.
Bike
  • 3h 27m 51s
  • 53.21 miles
  • 15.36 mile/hr
Comments:

This was one wet ride. I enjoyed it, but it would be more fun dry and in nice conditions. The traffic near Dahlonega was bad. I stopped to help someone out with a flat who didn't have a pump. Good Karma I hope!
What would you do differently?:

Drive.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some spaghetti and drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was raining on the descents, so I was pretty cautious and didn't push it at all.

Event comments:

This would get an average ride, except for the exceptional Gaps aspect of it.

Whoa - Way to go! I can't believe the thing even went on, as wet as it was. They cancelled the bike at a tri I was doing a little further north it was showering so hard. Coming down those hills must have been about white knuckle time. .

Nice toughness to get through the day.

With all that rain, you are leaving out quite a bit of drama.

Based upon the mileage above, I am guessing that you did Woody's, Wolf Pen and Neel's Gaps ... each has it own terrain of pain: Woody's got the dishonest ascent of dips and curves, Wolf Pen the switch backs that only seem to take you further from the crest and Neel's for it's long grueling grade upwards.

... and then all of this is the rain! (Meaning you had to go down with wet brakes along slippery roads.)

Nicely done.  Like the inaugural Muscle Mountain Mania where it actually sleeted and snowed throughout the ride, this is one where you can wear the cycling jersey with pride!

Thanks!  The rain and wetness wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be -- it sucked the most being wet on the climbs.

There wasn't too much drama really -- the rain and wetness was annoying but it didn't seem too bad.  It is a tough race though -- next year will be the 6 gap!
