Most of a PowerBar pre-race, and a Roctane GU about 15 mins pre-race. Too much caffeine?

Couldn't get comfortable breathing. Treaded water a bit on the back stretch to try to catch my breath. So felt like crap, but similar overall speed to last year.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not take a caffeinated GU before? I don't know.

Nice race, and overall podium!  I like your racing kit, too - you can definitely be found on the course!  LOL

ETA:  I've had that panicky breathing thing on the swim, too.  Key for me is to start REALLY slow and build speed, or get in a good warm up which isn't always the easiest thing to do logistics-wise.

Great race, Steve!  Nice way to cap the season.

I have suffered the swim panic breathing MANY a time.  I found that letting everyone else go and taking an extra two seconds to get going after the start made ALL the difference.  It was always worth a few seconds on the front end to have a great swim.
