![]() Swim
Comments: Started really fast, and after the usual chaos at the start, I was able to find my space and it went pretty well. No issues breathing. Wore my short swimrun suit for the first time in a race. The water was too hot to wear the full length one. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: A good T1, no issues removing the wetsuit even though the zip is at the front. I had practiced of course and developped a good technique. Faster than last year and about the same as previous years ![]() Bike
Comments: A fun course, lots of hills, up and down. Pushed downhill and took it easy when some hills got too steep and the momentum from the up was not enough. I didn’t care about losing a few seconds on the bike, I wanted to keep some for the run About 30 seconds slower than last year. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: A good T2, perfectly executed. ![]() Run
Comments: Very happy with the run. The conservative goal was to stay under 5.30m/km (8:52/m) but it felt great averaging 5:14 and 5:21 on the first 2 km and I even had some juice left to run the last one in under 5 minutes. “only” 31 seconds slower than last year, which is quite a lot for such a short run but the way my run has been going this year, this is really good. This was my 2nd faster run on this course, better than 2018. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Collapsed on the grass, took a while to get my breath back, felt a little nauseous. I really pushed to the limit this time, really pleased with myself. Briefly disappointed to have missed the podium when I looked at the results because I’d only seen 2 girls in front of me on the run. I guess I was so focused on my run that missed the other two. It’s fun to be on the podium (did it 3 times out of 4 at this venue) but as I said before, I’d rather have a good race like today and miss out than have a bad race and win because none of the fast ones turned up. The first 3 ones where much younger than me (36,(!) 15 and 9 years respectively). Even number 4 was much younger so really no regrets. Event comments: Lovely village race getting bigger. This is one of my 2 A races this year. A really short and fast one and probably my favourite. It’s the 4th time I do this distance and the 5th time at this venue (they had a sprint distance one year but we were only 10 participants so they didn’t do it again).
Drove there (1h15), picked up my starter pack, set up my stuff, talked to a few people I knew, ate my pre race ham and cheese toastie, the usual
As the people of BDAS know, I have been struggling with my run this year so the goal was to smash the run.
I jogged/walked the entire run course to remind me how it was and make a plan how to run it. Happy to see that there was no major uphill.
