As a complete tri-newbie, this thread scares the begebes out of me. I am so not ready to even think about a razor on skin that is not my face.

On the more positive side, I read something about shaving in a triathlon book and I didn't understand why anyone would do it. I wondered if it could give some sort of performace boost, especially in the swim. When I had long hair as a teenager, my coach made me wear a cap to make me faster, and there is more surface area in legs than head. I'm glad to know this is just a fashion thing since that makes it much easier to not do. After all, I'm usually not very PC and attracting women is a lost cause.

I don't know about getting scraped up on the bike or speeding up your swim (sure a little, but really, how much difference does it make?), but it is AWESOME for putting on sun tan lotion!  You use about 1/3 as much when you're shaved and it goes on much easier.

Once per week I hit EVERYTHING with the razor, including arms, chest, and any area making contact with my bike seat (!).

My husband used to race mountain bikes.  He started doing a lot of the road rides around town and he shaved his legs because if he didn't the roadies wouldn't take him seriously.

Now that he's not racing anymore and doesn't do as much road riding, he quit shaving his legs.  I liked it both ways, the hairy guys have that rugged masculinity about them, the shaved guys have that sexy "I'm a roadie/triathlete etc" air about them.

I also think that any woman who isn't used to the sport will think that a guy is a freak if they shave their legs.  Women in the sport think it's hot.

After years and years around clean shaven bikers, I have a secret attraction to men with hair on their bodies.  They just seem so manly to me.  oooozing of manliness.

That being said, I spent some serious time in the shower today and now my entire body is slick under my clothes.   It makes me feel fast and sexy, so why wouldn't the guys get the same feeling?

I'm sorry, what was the point of the thread?  I'm getting distracted...

My reasoning for it right there.

Except it's Icy Hot, not sunscreen.

I don't. I feel its something I still have to earn.

That being said, I've been suckered into agreed to do it if I qualify for OFSAA (High-school provincails) for swimming.

For all I know I might keep it that way.

I don't have enough money to buy the amount of razors I would need to shave all the pertinient areas.  And I'm talking about just one shaving.

Carl Carlson - 2006-10-18 12:57 PM Never.

Time to get with the program, Carl.

I already have a red bike. If The Bear says it's okay to shave....

Nah, too much work. I don't know the story behind your "bear" nickname, but I call myself MikeTheBear because I'm big, cuddly, and furry. My wife and daughter actually huddle around me for warmth. I still need to lose several pounds of a$$ before shaving will make a difference. Otherwise I'll just look like a fat guy with shaved legs - what's the point of that?

Please guys - don't lose sight that many of us women like the hairy ones still. We like to be able to tell the difference between our shaven bodies and your own...

Unless chafing is a serious issue, and I know it can be, there isn't too much reason for the shorne man.

I've actually read that hair acts somewhat as a lubricant so it should cut down on chafing.

The only thing I shave is my noggin. I leave the hair on the legs and chest. Now that I have a little gray coming in I get some great compliments about it.

Mr. HL, I implore you too... Just TRY it... Let Jen see it! It will all be well worth while. Many women don't realize they even WANT their man to shave their legs/chest/whatever til they actually do... and then.... well... they see what it looks like and they LOVE it.

We only want to admire your well defined and developed bodies without a layer of fuzzy weird hair on top. Is that so wrong!??!?

I myself didn't realize how good of a thing it was til I actually saw how good of a thing it was. You know?

DO IT. As per NIKE, Just Do It. If your wife hates it, then let your hair grow back. If not.... well, the possibilities are endless! I envision extra cardio... for the both of you!

My wife suggested I keep my hairy legs so I did for the longest time, but a couple months ago I took the plunge and got out the razor. Never looked back. Twice a week for me and extra snuggling in the cot from the wifey.

Oh, and I actually feel better with shaved legs as well.
